8/14/12 exhibition game thread...

I wonder why every single D1 school that has the budget for these kinds of trips doesn't do what you're suggesting. I think UT's basketball operations department could use a mind like yours.
I find it pretty amusing, how BP was ridiculed for taking his team overseas, yet CM decision to do the same is genius. Some UT fans just amaze and disgust me.

You don't think players play in pick up games without their coaches knowing? Come on man, you can't be that naive?

Is that what I said? Players can play pick up games, that's allowed, see the RTL. However, coaches can't coach at the "pickup games".

So, by taking this trip you get about 15-20 more practices, scrimmages that 90% of other colleges don't get.

If you don't understand the advantage or impact this kind of trip has there's really no point in you posting in this thread.

All the schools do it. Don't know why anyone would ridicule a coach for acting on an opportunity like this, other than discounting the level of competition (valid criticism). You get 10 extra practices that other teams don't get, and you're able to play four organized games that can mostly only improve your situation. Many more benefits than drawbacks with a trip like this.

I think it's 10 practices, but the point remains the same.

I didn't say a word about CM coaching in pick up games, I said the players would benefit more from playing in pick up games against better talent, but thanks for trying to distort what i actually said. If you don't remember all the bashing BP got on this board for taking his team overseas, you must be the only one, or maybe you just have selective memory. I guarantee you, anyone who frequents this board semi-regularly knows exactly what i'm referring to.

Well I was counting the 10 extra pre trip practices, the 4 games, and not that they have I don't think, but if they wanted to have a few film sessions or things like that at night they could. So all together I was just saying 15-20 opportunities nobody else is getting...

But yes, 10 official practices, you're correct.

So in your opinion the players gain more from playing in the RTL than they do by getting 10 extra practices and 4 games in Italy?

Pure genius.

And no, I've yet to see anyone saying they remember pearl being bashed for what you're speaking about.

Edwards' rebounding numbers on this trip are encouraging. Maybe he'll turn out to be a 6-8 Reb/gm guy on the wing.

That's the exact number I've been saying, right in that range, which is phenomenal for a 3.

One of the reasons I think he finds himself gettig major minutes.

Where in the world are you coming up with this garbage about pick-up games on campus being better competition than professional teams overseas? Also, 5-5 pick-up on campus wouldn't be refereed and probably wouldn't have substitutions. You can't compare the two and ask to be taken seriously.

If i wanted to take the time, ( which im not going to do, i have a life), i could show you lots of post bashing Pearl. As I said anyone who frequents this site even semi-regularly knows what i said is factual. I find it impossible for you to say you don't remember any bashing, as much as you post. Doesn't seem realistic.

The professional teams you are referencing are nothing more than bad HS talent at best. They could not compete against any of the inner city Memphis HS's let alone a good college team. Congrats on showing you know nothing about basketball talent.

did the team UT beat today beat purdue earlier? There is a rumor floating around on TOS that they did.

People can't be serious about the team being better off just playing pick up games. The team gets live action allowing our freshman to get live action. Plus the huge part of practices and getting more time with CCM. This trip will prove to be huge when the season comes.

Whoa, tool alert.

Yeah, Martin deciding to do the NCAA allotted overseas trip is going to send UT bball back to the stone age:crazy:

17 days till football

And 88 days until a good UT men's team starts playing.

Go start a thread in the football forum about how Dooley is awesome or sucks, about how you hate adidas, about why you are excited about football (because I'm sure no one has starteda thread on that topic), and your own prediction thread. Go do it. Stop wasting time in the basketball forum. Football seasons starts in who cares how many days, and you're hanging out here?!?

Ok let's drop that part, because I really dont remember, and if youre not going to show me the evidence it's pointless to discuss.

However, you completely ignored the first part of my response, so I'll repost as it is the much bigger issue of things you said.

Really?

Yet one of the teams we played beat purdue and Georgia.

Way to show that you're completely clueless.

... bad high school talent at best? Good to know that the backup point guard at Sioux Falls High School could go and start for one of these four.
