8/14/12 exhibition game thread...

And 88 days until a good UT men's team starts playing.

Go start a thread in the football forum about how Dooley is awesome or sucks, about how you hate adidas, about why you are excited about football (because I'm sure no one has starteda thread on that topic), and your own prediction thread. Go do it. Stop wasting time in the basketball forum. Football seasons starts in who cares how many days, and you're hanging out here?!?

While I don't appreciate football guys putting down basketball, I don't know that you need to run down football either. There are football fans in this forum too.

And that's completely fine. I'm excited about football too, but I'm not going to troll the basketball forum. Conversely, I'm not going to troll the football forum when bball season starts. I will even throw in not trolling football threads in the football offseason. People post in this forum for the shear joy they get from being disrespectful to us.

I'm not a regular here but the only grief I remember was when Pearl coached the US team at the Maccabiah Games in Israel. His son was on the team. Josh Selby de-commited while he was out of the country. A lot of vocal Vol fans were up in arms led by an infamous Volnation member from the past.

I didn't say a word about CM coaching in pick up games, I said the players would benefit more from playing in pick up games against better talent, but thanks for trying to distort what i actually said. If you don't remember all the bashing BP got on this board for taking his team overseas, you must be the only one, or maybe you just have selective memory. I guarantee you, anyone who frequents this board semi-regularly knows exactly what i'm referring to.

It was 5 years ago that Pearl took a team overseas. It's not like it just happened yesterday.

This. It was in Israel iirc and many had issue with this, but that's not what the OP is talking about apparently so I don't know.

It was a stunning decommitment. The cookout at Bruce's house should have been enough to seal the deal.

I understand what your saying. I just think you can run the football trolls off without throwing the football team under the bus.

Oh ok, still, was he being criticized for this?

i don't remember this...

No, not at all.

As the Cat fan said, the only overseas-related criticism he took from some people was coaching the USA team in Israel during a major recruiting period.

I just looked it up. In 2007, they visited the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria. I had remembered Prague specifically, but I wasn't sure what else, so I posted "Eastern Europe." Pearl was not criticized for that trip. You are confusing the 2007 trip with the World Maccabiah Games that he coached the USA in.

Wish we would have been able to schedule some better opponents but I'm sure it's difficult to convince the better teams in Europe to a one time scrimmage. Heck, better than nothing.

While searching around the web for how much the trip might cost a university, I ran across sites that basically advertised setting up these kinds of trips. So maybe the games, sites, and dates were left up to a planning agency. That might explain why it seems like so many schools are in the same places playing the same teams.

Intriguing. I bet that's exactly what's going on.

ITSGR82BATNVOL was way off.

He probably was thinking of the Maccabiah Games backlash though.

yea, which was understandable why people were upset.

however, that trip has NOTHING to do with this trip to Italy so the fact he brought it up makes ZERO sense.

I was on the board, and no one bashed him. You are thinking of when he coached the Jewish US team in the Macaabian Games during the recruiting summer.
