8/19 scrimmage?

Just saying, I didn't turn suicidal last week, and I'm not gonna be giddy after this week's scrimmage.

I think what you're trying to say is . . . "We're talking about PRACTICE. I mean . . . PRACTICE. We're talkin' 'bout PRACTICE. It's PRACTICE. You guys are talkin' 'bout PRACTICE . . . "

O, I wasn't suicidal either. I was one of those telling everyone to wait until after the 2nd scrimmage. The progression from scrimmage 1 to scrimmage 2 is much more important than how the first scrimmage is played out.

Jim Bob got some snaps tonight, but I think he fumbled the ball. Hardegree looked really really good. Crompton and Ainge weren't great, but after this scrimmage, there is no reason for the Crompton for starter talk. Ainge was good enough to silence that discussion tonight. But the defense is still ahead of the offense.

I look forward to see scrimmage #3 on Tuesday.

I've heard that Bo is looking the best right now, but I don't know if he is playing against quality competition in the scrimmages.

just reading from another board, its over, this was their highpoints:

a) Both Ainge and Crompton played well.
b) Oline was a weakness and hurt the running game.
c) Lots of dropped passes
d) Coker didn't play that well
e) Austin and Hancock are better then Brisco tonight
f) 2nd team defense is much better then 2nd team offense, lack of depth
g) McClendon on oline is a real stud
h) McNeil played most of the game at center

All the QB's played well. Crompton saw more pressure today and didn't make as quick of decisions. I thought he played awesome last week and he still played very well tonight.

The o-line is still struggling in my opinion.

There were not as many dropped passes this week. I'll check my notes.

I thought coker played very well especially at the end when he had a 20 yard scamper and then followed that with a td.

Hancock looked awesome but going against 2 team D.

Taylor and Rogers both broke punt returns.

Also,

no delay penalties on the offense and I don't think either qb threw an int. Briscoe fumbling is the only TO I remember.

Do you think that tonight's scrimmage may have boosted Rogers into the 5th spot over Briscoe? Rogers seems to be a guy that will be hard to keep off the field and a playmaker.

That's a tough call. I think they have both looked good at times. Briscoe probably hurt himself a little with the fumble.

Stanley blew past his defender and had a TD pass that he almost pulled in. It was probably a 55 yard pass from Hardegree. The crowd awwed.

I think we saw flashes tonight of why Hardesty was the guy last year before he got hurt. He really ran with authority at times.

Looks like he KNS is already calling the Vols O a bust again... I don't subscribe, but that's the gist I get from the headline on the mainpage...

How serious do you think Jerod Mayo's injury is? I heard he left the field on his own power and that he stayed in pads but that the injury was apparent. As much as I want to see McCoy on the field, we can't afford injuries in the LB corps.

I also heard Morley got work at CB and looked good.

I'm not sure how to feel about Taylor and Rogers both having big punt returns. Should we feel good because they're returning them? Or should we feel bad because our special teams unit is sucking again?

Also, didn't Wilhoit miss 2 FG's? That's not acceptable.

I don't see how it could be a huge bust when we had 5-6 40+ yard plays.
by my count Ainge was 19-26 for 192 yards and 1TD.

I don't think the offense was a bust but the o-line was concerning.

Good question. Wilhoit missed more than that if you count the situational stuff.

KNS article posted an hour ago... as I read it on the VN homepage.

A best-case scenario from Tennessee's second scrimmage Saturday night? That the Vols' defense is awfully good...

Why are we still talking about so many problems with the O-Line? It seems like that is consistently an issue the past few years. Maybe it is overblown in some cases but it always seems like there is a consistent muttering about the weakness of the O-Line. I can hear the "Fire Fulmer" chant warming up....this is his area and will be fodder for that crowd if this "weak O-Line" line continues....

If that's accurate, I think the QB controversey is officially over.
how accurate it is remains to be seen.

He had another TD that was broken up that could have been caught by Holbert but the DB made a good play.

That's pretty solid right there. I read where he would've had another TD if Morely didn't strip the ball from Holbert.

How much did Ainge play? 2 quarters or so?
