9-4

Heupel can’t seem to get him team to give a crap on the road for some reason. USC last year, losing to a bad UF this year, get taken to school by Bama in the 2nd half, letting a mediocre KY team get within 5, and now just getting absolutely manhandled by Mzzou. Joe isn’t the problem and the refs certainly aren’t the problem. It’s Josh Heupel, who also cant figure out a decent offensive game plan on the road either. We will always be a 7 - 9 win team at best until Heupel figures it out
Except for last year when we were an 11 win team

Apparently tho you have to have a Heisman contender QB to keep from getting embarrassed by middle of the road programs.
That's what I keep getting told on here.
Hooker was an outstanding QB 1 year in his 6 year college career. Let’s not think he was a 5 star super QB.

Playoff committee will do the right thing this week. Ohio state #1, Michigan #2, Fsu #3, and Washington #4. Ga has done nothing this year, sorry but it it's true

We were spoiled by our team last year. At least, they didn’t give up and played 4 quarters unlike our team today. I hope they show effort next week. I think the mentality of last year’s team ain’t in our current one.

Despite the embarrassment today we can still finish 9-4 with a win in a bowl game that’s not a bad season and we would’ve killed for that a few short years ago.
I feel so much better, thanks. I was struggling with the math.

Right now, alot of fans don't want to hear it, but 9-4 with a win over a top 25 program would still be a fine good year. Tennessee has only won 9 games three times (2015, 2016, 2022) since 2007. That keeps the momentum rolling and everyone excited for the Nico show next year.

I’m not a naysayer, but I do feel like it should be noted that Butch Jones went 9-4 twice

The reality also is that Heupel's best season at UCF was with a roster that he neither recruited, nor had to develop.

Next year will most likely be a wash, but the year after, we're going to find out if Heupel and this staff can develop the players that they manage to recruit

Texas won’t be ranked behind Bama. And 1 loss Texas isn’t gonna be ranked behind undefeated Georgia who is gonna come of a 3-4 TD win over a top 10 opponent.

We got to get stronger and mentally tougher. You have to bring the same intensity every game. We didn’t look sharp or very focused, in a game that meant a lot. We have to develop a killer instinct also, we sometimes let teams back into games because we mentality let up. Elite teams don’t let up and they don’t get pushed around and they don’t make silly undisciplined penalties. And they don’t fumble away scoring opportunities in and around the redzone. We were beat to the punch all game long. This team needs to focus on playing a great game next week. That requires a total team effort from coaches and players. Playing hard and relentless for 4 quarters.GBO

Look facts are facts. This team is much closer to the mid-point of the league than the top. Injuries have been costly this season but to win big - you must have an instinctual quarterback/football player who can make plays on his own - like Dobbs, Hooker and Nico. Cook showed that today. The Mizzou running back is quite a good story of a real ballplayer playing at lower levels that is now a star in the SEC. Heupel is an exceptionally good younger coach who can learn from this season. Continual upgrades are needed on defense and there must be meaningful quarterback competition.

There is still the Georgia game at home for this team to pull a major upset and change their perception and I guess possibly the team has enough heart to compete for a half in their 2nd consecutive CBS national telecast opportunity. They kind of mailed it in today and if they don't snap out of it - they could make Vandy's season with a similar effort.

But why would espn predict a playoff no show for ga. They are up on #9 ole miss. I believe espn thinks we destroy them next week at Neyland

To be fair, Hooker was very coachable and cerebral. It took him having the right system that fit his talents and good coaching. Wonder what he could have done for a whole career in the right system. VA Tech didn’t really fit that description. JM3 just isn’t the QB that Hooker was, imo, we lost some talented players that had a huge impact last season and losing Golesh has certainly had an adverse effect. No one just really seems to be stepping up this year amidst all those absences.

Because of this

You realize Georgia and Bama play each other right? They are also basing it off Texas having a worse path to the playoff than Bama….

But rest assured, a 13-0 UGA will be in the playoff whereas a 12-1 Bama isn’t a lock for the playoff unless Texas has a second loss.

Also I love they are starting the narrative that Bama is gonna be favored vs Georgia in Atlanta. Can’t wait to hammer the underdog Dawgs

I said it when Gump moved up 2 places on a bye week: The committee will put them in the playoffs. If they beat UGA in the SECCG, they're in. No doubt about it.

We have no leaders on this team. Losing Hooker was huge and Hyatt and Tillman and even Fant they were alpha dogs.

This ain’t it. This isn’t a participation trophy program.

I think people have already forgotten that 9-4 was the best we did in the years between Fulmer and Heupel. The Carny Barker Butch Jones did it twice, and backed into that record by losing to Mizzou and vandy after beating UF and Uga in the same year for the first time since 2004.

So 9-4 is apparently the new floor, while for 12-13 years, it was the ceiling apparently.

We are in a much better place.
