_Vols in NC...get out and vote!!! Need your help. MAY 8

I don't give a damn about your view or the rest of your liberal friends here

The freedom hater doesn't give a damn about my view or my "liberal" friends and that is supposed to bother me?

Well, damn, I guess I will go cry about it.

You are wrong. All citizens of the United States are entitled to the same privileges and immunities; further, the Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and states that equal protection under the law must be provided (this was construed under Brown v. Board of Education to include equal access to benefits and privileges, since education is a privilege that states provide). You can wave the "states' rights" rebel flag all you want, but states do not and have never possessed the power to override the Constitution of the United States.

Damn you, you liberal. Why do you care, you don't live in North Carolina? The people have spoken, and Obama sucks... and so forth.

Marcus welcome to VN, now you see what it's like to be a social conservative. These folks are so tolerant of everyone except social conservatives. NC here's to you :toast:

Who is liberal?

hope I am on that list. I need a good pick me up today

tolerant of views is different than intolerance of actions. I don't care if anyone believes gay marriage is wrong. What I care is about is when they act on those feelings to force their socially conservative (ie biblical) views on everyone else

Again, this was the same state that voted for Barry in 2008. My guess is Dems and the "freedom lovers" were allwoed to vote. So you all could have voted to allow it. Why didn't you do more? Are you banned from moving?

So, while I feel that a vote for (or against) Obama vs. a vote for (or against) same-sex marriage is an apples/oranges argument, it did lead to these recent events.

Obama was the first democrat to win NC since Carter and the GOP needed to break the trend.

One of the first things the GOP lead NC congress did was Amendment One. They also (within their right) started redrawing congressional district lines, removing Asheville city from the 11th District (Asheville is very liberal and a large voting population, the rest of the mountains, more conservative) and placed them in the 10th District which includes no other areas with geographical ties to WNC. Without Asheville's liberal leanings, the GOP expects to take the 11th District seat that did belong to Heath Shuler, and they expect the 10th District to be able to withstand the influx of democratic votes from Asheville.

I was born and raised here, have no intentions of leaving, and why should I have to anyway? And before you jump to conclusions, I'm white, my wife is white, we have two daughters, we were each raised in church, and we both have a problem with the religious right telling everyone else how to live their lives when many of their own closets are busting at the seams with skeletons.

That's not a talking point smart guy, that's my view. This should be a state issue. You don't live in NC so I don't see how this is any of your business anyway.

So, using your logic, how do you justify making it your business, Tennessee resident?

As I've stated over and over bud...I answer to God and God alone. The opinions of the liberal masses mean absolutely nothing to me. I know I did the right thing. Glad you agree. Funny how when democracy actually works the way its intended but the results don't go their way its "every ones fault but theirs" guarantee you half or more didn't vote for this exact issue in their home state when they had a chance. Try to learn to lose with grace Dems...november is coming.

This s*** is so sickening.

I can't believe that here in 2012, this is still an issue.

And WTF is wrong with volfanjustin?!?!

I never said you should move, all I am saying is if the people of TN voted in something that I hate so much I could move. Marriage is not protected by the Constitution, so my view is I am personally against it but if a state wants to allow it that is a good policy.

Do you really think God and Jesus want the LGBT community to be discriminated against?

Justin, if you want to continue this line, fine. However, you have failed to even acknowledge the equal protection clause at least twice now, why?

I believe you did do the right thing. Keep up the good fight fellow freedom hater.

We've successfully (and directly) trampled upon the rights and civil liberties of a select few, and indirectly trampled upon the rights and civil liberties of many others (they just don't know it yet) to implement an amendment to the state constitution that bans something that was already considered illegal. Praise be to God!
