A few facts for the mopes on here

Since 2010 Tennessee has signed 40 4 star players and 1 5 star players, a pretty good stat. However, of those 41 players only 24 remain on the roster and of those 24 there are zero 5 star players.

For comparison's sake, since 2010 UGA has signed 43 4 star players and 5 5 star players, again very good. However, and most telling, 42 remain on the roster including 4 5 star players. That is a difference of 18 players and if you think that doesn't make a difference you are greatly mistaken.

Just to add more fuel to the fire, since 2010 Alabama has signed 50 4 star players and 11 5 star players, exceptionally good. And again, most telling, 50 remain on the roster and of the 11 that no longer remain on the roster 7 were first round draft picks. That is a difference of 26 players.

Tom Landry couldn't win with those kind of odds stacked against him, continue with the Butch Jones bashing.

I think all rational Vols fans realize its going to take a few years, but sometimes its hard to hear them over the "vocal minority" of Butch bashers.

It's been said here before, don't try to convince morons with facts. This was a long time coming; Fulmer should have been fired at least 2-3 years before they finally pulled the plug, thankfully. Everyone wants immediate gratification but there's such a thing as a recruiting process and living with the roster you have until you have "YOUR" (coaches) recruits. Plus, where would we be if Hunter, Bray, Patterson, and some others were still here. It's certainly not Coach Jones' fault he doesn't have those people. All fan bases are not patient, including ours, however, your points are well-taken. And for those who want to wring their hands some more, just how many teams have beaten Oregon and Alabama this year? Or Georgia, LSU, or S. Carolina? I'd still take all this pain as long as Fulmer was gone.

Appreciate you putting specifics to what all of us know, but a few refuse to acknowledge or give credence to. It makes a huge difference when 2 programs sign similar numbers of talented players, but one team actually retains and develops them while the other loses nearly half to attrition.

I'm a huge Butch supporter who has been thrilled with his off field performance but underwhelmed with his on field performance. I, along with a lot of other guys on here need the perspective this post provides.

I think we are playing much better on defense and offensively we are just changing schemes without the proper players. Look at Butch's first year at Cincy, we will be fine even if this year is rough.

Its really quite simple. Our players don't get excited to play USA. We aren't good enough to roll them without focus.

Even Saban, Carroll, etc. have off games.

I was disappointed Saturday, because so far we had played with discipline. But going off the deep end - especially when we manned up and actually won the game - is short sighted.

The only one's going off the deep end are the one's that go ballistic when someone is slightly critical of Butch. How many threads have been started saying it's time to fire Butch? Now how many of these excuses threads have popped up since yesterday?

I personally like Butch but I don't think he and his all star staff was ready for this stage. I realize he needs more time. I have seen improvement in a lot of areas. But I've also noticed things that caused concern.

I agree, there are some. But remember these are kids and no one gets fired up to play South Alabama, and we aren't good enough to cruise to a win at this point.

IMO, taking a step back and looking at the big picture makes sense.

Butch is recruiting well, we are one of the least penalized teams in the nation, our defense (while slow) is playing much better than last year. Our DBs are incredibly opportunistic.

We are 3-2 as expected. I hope that we improve and go 6-6. That's about as good as it will get and its a significant upgrade from Dooley. Playing in the SEC we aren't getting any scheduling breaks to hide our weaknesses... if we played Mizzou's schedule we'd undefeated too.

I think what would solve things around here is a "dislike" button and when if you get 20 dislikes (seen only by the mods or system) you are banned for the remainder of the day. :)

I am not upset about the results against Oregon or Florida because I realize we don't have enough depth or talent to win those games. I am upset that I did not see our coordinators make in game adjustments when USA battled back and hit us in the mouth in the second half. What are we going to do when we do have the talent and a lead against the SEC big dogs and we start to lose that lead? I guess I really expected to see us take care of business better than we did against a subpar team. I'm not calling for the coach to be fired. I do believe the staff is responsible for almost letting that game escape our grasp. I believe CBJ will hold his coaches accountable just like he does his players. Deep down, after the third coaching change, I was really hoping we had a staff that knows how to get players in better position to make plays and put non-conference tune up games away.

Over the last 8 years it's certainally been entertaining to listen to all the excuses, we seem to never run out of excuses.
