A few facts for the mopes on here

Are you saying we don't have the talent to compete in the Sun Belt too? Because I haven't seen anyone say we have the talent to compete in the SEC.

Are you trying to suggest that lesser teams don't give BCS conference teams trouble consistently?

I don't see it. The OP was making the typical "we don't have any talent left due to attrition" argument as an excuse for our poor play. I simply stated in a round about way that that excuse doesn't hold water in the South Alabama game.

The OP is about the number of top recruits at GA & AL vs. UT. You are reading into it a debate about S. AL?

if you are too blind to see that we don't have the talent it takes to compete in the SEC week in and week out then no one can help you. Do you really think that Cody Blanc, Malik Foreman, Cameron Sutton, Brent Brewer, Justin Worley, Rajon Neal, and many other would see the field at UGA, UA, LSU, UF, or SC?

Find one post that I claimed we have the talent to compete with AL, FL, GA, or SC. I know the roster is depleted. It's my contention the roster is not as bad as we've been playing. I was hoping for a coach that would get more out of thevteam than it's individual parts. Frankly to this point I don't see it.

Since 2010 Tennessee has signed 40 4 star players and 1 5 star players, a pretty good stat. However, of those 41 players only 24 remain on the roster and of those 24 there are zero 5 star players.

For comparison's sake, since 2010 UGA has signed 43 4 star players and 5 5 star players, again very good. However, and most telling, 42 remain on the roster including 4 5 star players. That is a difference of 18 players and if you think that doesn't make a difference you are greatly mistaken.

Just to add more fuel to the fire, since 2010 Alabama has signed 50 4 star players and 11 5 star players, exceptionally good. And again, most telling, 50 remain on the roster and of the 11 that no longer remain on the roster 7 were first round draft picks. That is a difference of 26 players.

Tom Landry couldn't win with those kind of odds stacked against him, continue with the Butch Jones bashing.

We have many fans who would rather have "the walk on" story or the hard working 3 stars that says yes sir during an interview... Than real even talent to complete with with... Finally, Boise State does not play in the SEC which all of their 3 stars...

And you are not going to see it offensively until we have a QB who can effectively run the read option but you have to admit from last year to this year the defense has improved. When I say improved I mean the are at least lined up correctly and know who they are supposed to be covering.

The defense isn't awesome, but they're better than I expected.

I don't think we've seen enough to judge the defense yet. Are they better than last year? Well I should hope so. We haven't had a game against a powerful offense except OR and we all know how that turned out. The next three games will show us if we really have any sort of a defense.

How many 4 and five star players does South Alabama have?

I am tired of people saying no talent, butch bashing and all that. All I am saying is I have not seen progression by our team. They were frustrated by a small, small school. By your logic, we have 24 more 4 star players than s Alabama. Your numbers are less than that when comparing us to the other guys. Why cant we beat them like the beat down we gonna get with bama and Georgia?

Wrong user
post, sorry.

There's truth in that. There was no way our speed on D was going to keep up with Oregon. I will say that our offensive gameplan didn't help our defense very much that game. It wouldn't have matter in regards to the outcome but it may have kept a TD or two off the board.

You folks kill me.

If we would have won that game 50-10 yall would be sayin, "it was south alabama we were supposed to kill them."

We won. Were 3-2. What the he** did yall think our record was gonna be 5 games in? 5-0?

Go be miserable somewhere else.

Btw i realize we have some problems on the team but we do look better than last year and we actually finished a game.
i.e. didnt take a knee with a minute left in the game on the 40. Give up wide open td passes with the game on the line. Didnt have 13 on the field. Didnt quit

Should i keep going?

Appreciate you putting specifics to what all of us know, but a few refuse to acknowledge or give credence to. It makes a huge difference when 2 programs sign similar numbers of talented players, but one team actually retains and develops them while the other loses nearly half to attrition.

I'm a huge Butch supporter who has been thrilled with his off field performance but underwhelmed with his on field performance. I, along with a lot of other guys on here need the perspective this post provides.

I agree a win is a win. My point goes to all the apologist on the board who make excuses. I realize the talent is down but the coaching while hasn't been terrible it's been less than spectacular as well.

Just curious: how many 4 and 5 star players has University of Souhern Alabama signed/retained? If we have more than they do, doesn't that kinda throw water on your theory, since they played us even?

I know they got a 4* transfer from Bama at WR, but I don't know if he played. Edit: Yep, Danny Woodson. He played.

They have another 4* from Bama, Shinn. Not sure if he played.

QB Methany was also 3* on Rivals. I can't figure out for the life of me what UVA was thinking letting him slip away considering they would trade their offense for ours right now.

Main receiver, Smith, had an offer from South Carolina.
Another receiver, Saxton, was a 3* with an offer from Ole Miss.

Meleki Harris is a 3* DB with tons of offers.

Does anyone else know if they have other transfers?

Just looking up a few kids, here. But they definitely have been grabbing transfers and jucos and are more talented than I expected to find. Hope we don't schedule them again any time soon. :)

They look like the easy favorites in the Sun Belt based on the games I've seen.
