Another Thread for the Trashcan. Can we get a Dislike Bar on the Board?

Hart and pressure.....Laughable if you think he cannot handle it....He is not like some of the drama queens floating on the boards.......

He will make the decisions when he has too. There is a reason that Fulmer is not the AD and it is good enough for me.....

Fulmer is not going to be coach again and Dooley will be here for 2 more years....Be thankful he is still here and has not told UT to take a hike.....Reason he hasn't is that the powers that be are letting him run his own show....and at the moment have no high expectations except to right the ship created by the previous coaches and AD (Fulmer, Kiffin, and Hamiliton)

CDD would love to do nothing but coach....Right now he has to build team chemistry, recruit, manage, keep the masses happy, hire and fire, assess and determine what path to take to get there.....

We have placed enormous scrutiny on this program because of failures by others.....and now Dooley with the KY game.....the Fulmer group managed to keep him around for a while and by thwarting off the end they lead us right into this mess we see today....

Too many opinions without knowledge on here are taking things to the extreme....Sky is falling mentality....we got the money lets throw it into the fire......Rome was not built in a day, but it was built....

Quit stressing yourself out and the others....Step above the fray.....Watch, listen and learn and your life as a Vol will be more pleasant....

An olé cogger.....

I support Phillip 100%. I think what he did for this program over the years was influential in the expectations us fans have for Vol football. I hate seeing ignorant people drag his name in the mud on this board and consider those people to be idiots. Even though his last few years were rough, I focus on his accomplishments rather than his final years.

However, if Tennessee was to let another coach go, I really wouldn't want to see him back in the saddle. The expectations would be enourmous and if he didn't live up to them, it would be yet another coaching change in 2 years. No matter how much I like Fulmer, I'd hate to see that happen to my Vols.

But, who knows, maybe the firing lit a fire under his rear. I would love to see him come back 90's style and take this team to the top again. But taking a risk like that seems a bit too much.

Foolmer couldn't do it now for nothing!!! Why do you think he hasn't gone on to coach any where else? He came into a program that was already well established. It wasn't like it was for Kifin or Dooley for that matter. When Foolmer took over the program was just one year removed from back to back SEC championships. He didn't build the program but he sure did run it into the ground!

It's new ground for Hart, so I wouldn't say his actions are quite so predictable as to keep Dooley for 2 years, without noticing what's going on. Hart has noted that the KY game was one of the worst on the field performances he has ever observed... and has asked for a plan of action from Dooley.

TOS puts it like this... concerning the AD's experience prior to this eye-opener.
at Florida State saw the football program go 123-39. At Alabama they went 36-5, so this is a level of scrutiny that's eye-opening because it's not something they have experienced, but neither one is dismissing it.

The biggest flaw that a lot of posters on here make when they compare CDD to CPF as a coach and where CPF had us in the conference ranking is BS. Fulmer was a good recruiter and had been recruiting for years before ever taking over the team so there was no dumpster fire for him to start with.

It's ironic how when CJM took over the program it was about as bad of shape when CDD did, if memory recalls it took CJM and CPF to get the program headed back in the right direction but don't let facts mess up your agenda and opinion of the current staff

Majors had the buzz rating to get the program back on board and early on Fulmer was not a big factor making that happen.....Look at the staff Majors started with here...and don't you think there was a better way to ditch Majors.....than to we did.....not stating it was not time for him to go but it was also time for Fulmer to go....

I employed three previous players for Majors and Fulmer. They were all prior felons with convictions....Now there is another story...Do you want to bring back the Fulmer Cup....then reach into your wallet and just do it.....but I don't think it will be received like you advocate on this board....

The hope for the program centered on the Buzz created by hiring a NC coach immediately after he won it... and having him return to his alma mater.

We have no positive buzz effect anything akin to that at this point. Our buzz, at this point, is what happened to Tennessee? Can you believe how bad their team has become? ... and so on.

I agree.... When Johnny Comes Marching Home, Again Hoorah Hoorah......Everybody looked to Johnny as the savior....and he did get the talent in here.....

Does this mean we have to find the next Johnny type Coach.....2nd place in Heisman Race, a star caliber player only one fits the bill and its Peyton.....Unfornuately he is not coaching at the moment.....

I do concur that Peyton is the modern day parallel to what it would be like to recreate the buzz associated with the "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" effect. The program was in dire straights with little hope (like today) when the news broke.

Unfortunately, you're also correct on Peyton's return... ain't happening.

Maybe Johnny could come back again announcing it at the SECCG when he is honored this weekend. :)

Unfortunately for coach Dooley, that's what UT fans want. We are sick of a sucking football team. I understand that we suck now more than ever; however, we sucked long before Dooley was hired. As the matter of a fact, we were in such pitiful shape that we couldn't beg any one to take this position because of the wreckage left by the previous eight or so years. I was so disgusted after the Kentucky game. But what we all want is to become the powerhouse football team that we once were. The wreckage wasn't created over night and will not be fixed easily. He had faith in us when no one else did. So let's stay behind him until he proves that it's all him and he can't do the job that he started and he has just started

Please stop saying that. Hamilton looked for 3 days.... nothing more. Real coaches don't commit that quickly.

If a coach spent three days trying to sign his next QB, and found one who signed on the third day, would you believe no other QB was interested in the job?

That persepective of the UT HFC job should have died when Hamilton was fired. It was his excuse for hiring Dooley. Nothing more.

It was an unusual situation as everybody knows....Some people were in total shock and MH was not the AD to handle this.....Ohio State surprisingly did handle it differently and it seem to work out....Still not sure that K Brown would not have been a good interim....For some reason others the powers that be took a knee jerk reaction....We created a lot of Chaos in the process and this was a self inflicted wound....

With all that said.....CDD was the immediate fix and was able to stabilize a bad situation....Now he must be given the time to work it out....MH did not make this contract on his own He had help and a lot of seem to think he was operating in a Vacuum, but he wasn't.....

So goes the stability aspect of the program....Dooley put together a good damn staff and held ground on recruits. Isn't that what we wanted to begin with????

He followed it up with a second year of recruiting and the leftover player leadership provided us with a lot of competitiveness.....

Bad times were watching a 3rd rank team with Coach Doug Dickey's Recruits deteriorate to nothingness.... And nobody doing anything about it but watching it happen because they had their Heads in their BackSides....

It was like we struck a match lit a woodpile and poured gas over it.....They finally acted when bricks were thrown through windows and moving vans sent to CBBs (Bill Battle) home....Fans out of control because the AD and Staff did nothing....

MH was Smoke and Mirrors but he did one thing and that is raise money and built.....I watched, saw and heard big time donors call him during games and demand Asst Coach replacements OC during or right after games (Sanders and Cutcliff). It was embarrassing and I realize they were not interested in the health of the program but only in their own arrogance, ability and power.

Every program has its Sugar Daddy's.... The access to the program is at the descreation of the AD....This is why I am glad we got Hart....He knows how to handle this....

A funny story is that an autograph football of a famous QB (Not Peyton, Not Tee) was requested by one of these Sugar Daddy's. The QB sent him an autograph football and a bill for doing it...It was after he was drafted, so I guess the 20 million dollar contract was not enough to send it for free....LOL

And, then what happened on the field?

He took UT to the 'next level'.

If I were you, I suggest sticking to the post 2001 criticisms of CPF's record.

Even then, my turning point against CPF was the UCLA game he lost during his last year. But, I'd guess that team was about 3 TD's better with that staff than was the team the we fielded this season.

So, that's where CPF left off for me... about 3TD better than now and I was ready to see him go... with a record of success that Dooley does NOT have as an HFC (at UT or elsewhere... he sucked at LA Tech).

I was just pointing out that fulmer used those excuses in his last season. Im not thrilled with the current staff at all, hamilton should have made a better hire after fulmer or atleast should have had a larger buyout for kiffin to leave. Its a shame that dooley was the best we could get two yrs ago.

Dooley put the pressure squarely on himself, by losing the KY game

Lol. Proven head coach huh?

1. Even with Fulmers awful final years he stands at 152-52 wins vs losses. That's a ratio of .745 which ranks among the highest winning coaches in football.

2. Awards include:

AFCA Coach of the Year (1998)
Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year (1998)
George Munger Award (1998)
Home Depot Coach of the Year Award (1998)
Sporting News College Football COY (1998)
SEC Coach of the Year (1998)

3. Championships and Titles:

1 National Championship (1998)
2 SEC Championships (1997, 1998)
6 SEC Eastern Division Titles (1997, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007)

Sorry, but that seems pretty "Proven" to me. And, it's a successful coach that WANTS to be at Tennessee.

Not saying he's the right choice, but please don't make a post claiming he hasn't proven himself. Thanks.

Too many 98's bro.

And they lost the peach bowl that year. Same record in 2004 with a cotton bowl win. Just sayin.

Anyone care to guess how long it'll take Dooley to get to a 10 win season? Remember though, it requires sec games which means he can't buy out of the tough games.

Im not sure many are arguing the DD is the answer and know for sure as to what they are talking about. That however has nothing to do with PF not winning the SEC since 98.

What would be the reaction on the board if in the last 3 games the following was the outcome in a season.

Ole Miss - Lost 13-16
Kentucky - Tied 0-0
Vanderbilt - Lost 28-6

Would fans be calling for the HC job or be supportive?

Excellent post! Appreciate your perspectives!:hi:

Hope Hart is the answer we need as well. After Hamilton, it's hard to trust an AD with doing the right thing. But, I hope he does, even if I'm wrong about what that should be. He's obviously got access to a lot of information we don't. And, the program has to live with his decision and not mine--and it is in the most fragile state I can remember. :peace2:
