A little food for thought

When Charlie Strong decided to stay at UL, most of us were shocked. When UT turned their attention to Butch, most were skeptic. Since then, Butch's passion for this program has shown through and gives credence to AD Hart decision.

Now tonight in light of what UL is doing to the gators, I am even more confident. Why you ask? It's as simple as 1,2,3.

1) In three games against Charlie Strong, Butch is 2-1 with the only loss being an overtime loss.

2) The idea that game plans and great coaching turn 3* into 5* in no more evident than in tonight's game. While Florida has finished with highly ranked recruiting classes, over the last four years, UL classes have finished 78, 49, 29, and 42.

3) while I don't believe that the lack of recruiting success UL has had will cut it on the SEC on a weekly basis, I believe that Butch's passion and vision will continue to attract big time players (be patient with this class and rank). What may be missed by most is that he will also bring in grinders. Players that will fight to the end and will give Tennessee their all. Those are the players he is trying to find now and that will make the difference next year.

Once success and excitement is back next year, Butch and his staff will reap the benefits of their hard work as more of the top players will migrate to Knoxville. As those players come to Rocky Top, they will be joined by grinders.

Yes tonight is more validation that the future of Tennessee Football is bright.

GO VOLS.

Absurd statement.

A game between Louisville and UF gives absolutely no validation to anything concerning TN football. Any validation concerning TN football will be earned on the field by TN players and TN coaches.

Heh...I get his point.

Coach Strong is a good coach and we just hired someone who can beat em.

It's simple: CBJ beat Strong and Strong beat Florida...it's not like Dooley beat CBJ or something.....O' wait a minute. Never mind.

He also beat Strong when the latter had a crappy team. It's akin to saying that UL Monroe's coach is better than Nick Saban.

By the start of the season some posters will have cbj the best coach in America based on some type of association with something or someone...

Fact bj doesn't get a free ride in year one like everyone gave cdd. There is enough talent to win 7 or 8 games next year anything less n we should be asking ourselves is he the right coach and is hart the right ad.

The second question should be asked already.

Early, it looked like Florida was more interested in jaw boning and strutting around after a tackle, and Louisville was there to play a football game. At times the Gators reminded me of the Seminoles of a few years ago. Coach Strong had his team believing they could win and had over 30 Floridians on his roster with a grudge, and by the time Florida realized it was not going to be a cake walk it was too late.

Very good post is very good.

but I am willing to wait before forming an opinion on the Jones hire. If he can't recruit better than 3/4ths of the SEC our program is sunk. I would have loved to have Strong but Jones is a close second.

Yeah... good logic. Getting the coach that used less talent than Strong had to beat Strong 2 of 3 meetings and to take him to OT at home in his lose is DEFINITELY proof that UT is getting the "wrong coach".

You are just incredible with your creative negativity sometimes.

hes already done what we haven't been able to in a decade. that is good enough for me. i didn't think he was that good, but unlike most on here i can admit when i'm wrong.

I am taking the wait and see approach with CBJ. Has it occurred to any of you, that he may just be a good salesman and is saying all of the right things on the radio and in front of the camera.
I remember everyone was super excited about Rex Ryan when he arrived at New York and claiming that he would beat New England every year.
I remember everyone being excited when Kiffin brought in his all-star staff and even an all-star recruiting class. Mike Edwards, Bryce Brown, etc. etc.
I expect Dooley type seasons, our first two seasons and then barely getting wining seasons the next two seasons, then in season #5, we will begin to win regularly.

Let's see how far we can stretch the transitive game...

CBJ beat Strong with similar talent. Strong beat UF with weaker talent. CBJ now takes over the better talent that CDD beat CBJ with. Oh... This is getting interesting...

Coaches don't beat other coaches. Teams beat teams. Judging a coach based on head-to-head play in a single game is ridiculous. It's like looking at the box score from one game and picking the best hitters on a baseball team.

The situation at Cincy was better when Jones took over as opposed to Louisville before Strong.

If that makes you feel good about getting the crap kicked outta you by louisville, go ahead & believe it. Why so many gator trolls on our site???just another to put on my ignore list.:loco::confused::nono:

you going to say we didn't. looks like we should have overpaid for him.

Based on one game where he whipped Florida? I think UL overpaid to keep him. He's still gotta prove he can succeed in the ACC (a step up from the Big East) before he's worth that kind of money in the SEC. Good coach, but in the Big East.

Additionally, there's nothing to prove that CBJ isn't going to be a good coach for us. You're just still upset that we didn't get Gruden.

In what way? Like Dooley, Kragthorpe struggled to win on game day but he did a decent job of getting players. Kelly was an excellent coach but he hardly left a team full of blue chip talent.

Louisville beating uF 2nite can easily fall into the same catagory as Bst beating okla and UGA, and any other solid mid-major caliber team having a month to prep and coming out wanting to prove something.

At what point did it appear that L'ville was playing over their heads or doing anything they had not done to other teams all year? In fact, Strong's halftime comment was we need to just keep doing what we do... and then they did. I cannot remember a single point where they looked overmatched at any matchup except Floyd. UL's DL whipped UF's OL all night. UF's secondary got beat consistently. UL's run game wore UF down and was able to come up with some big 2nd half runs.

The notion that UF came out "flat" or disappointed at not getting a NC shot is just an excuse. UF played hard... they just got beaten soundly by a better team. They were in a BCS bowl. That's a big deal... and I seem to remember many here arguing that it was the coach's fault if a team comes out flat...

This was NOTHING like those games. UL had talent comparable enough to win individual match ups... and Strong badly outcoached Muschamp.
