My recollection is that the various bowls were finagling behind the scenes with various teams but that the SEC office (Alabama) put their foot down and assigned each of the bowls to the respective teams.Serves the gator bowl right for not choosing the Vols.
Just curious, has anybody thought about what would happen if say for instance half the team got wiped out for one of the playoff teams?
Was there a contingency mapped out?
There is no plan. I would imagine they would try to push the game back but there’s always the possibility said team would have to forfeit.Just curious, has anybody thought about what would happen if say for instance half the team got wiped out for one of the playoff teams?

I guess you couldn’t sense the sarcasm. Vanderbilt wouldn’t be in consideration for any bowl replacement. But they will definitely find a replacement. There’s too much money to be lost.No team that wasn’t already going to a bowl is going to be able to step in on this short of notice. They haven’t been practicing, and the players are likely dispersed all over the country for Christmas break.
As it should be and I’ll go one further . The NCAA should have this as a comprehensive policy for ALL sports & all participants instead of the current piecemeal arrangement that varies by conference affiliation . If this were the case chickenshart coaches couldn‘t use it as an excuse to weasel out of a game an hour before tip without taking the L .The CFP chair just announced that any team that can't play will forfeit, and that incluce the title game.
