How can they find a replacement team? I’d think it would be hard to scrounge up a team to play on such short notice after the season is over

I guess you couldn’t sense the sarcasm. Vanderbilt wouldn’t be in consideration for any bowl replacement. But they will definitely find a replacement. There’s too much money to be lost.
I figured you were being sarcastic about Vanderbilt but I was just pointing out that they can’t simply take the next best available 5-7 team and plug them into the bowl game with this short of notice.

The word from the Wake Forest athletic department is that a "threesome" option is being explored. Wake Forest AD, John Currie, is currently scouting other bowls, gauging potential suitors for interest.

I believe the Music City Bowl is actually higher in the pecking order than the Gator Bowl. It just doesn't seem that way since it's in our own state, and colder.

Both bowls are part of the pool that the SEC assigns, so neither is higher than the other.

Managed to play the reg season thru Delta, but can't play because of this new variant and its cold - like symptoms?

I hate politics
I hate politics too but I do like science. Looking at the new variant, it is more contagious but has less severe symptoms. That’s why you are seeing all these positive tests pop up. With the new variant, the vast majority of people may be asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic but it is spreading at a faster rate. It will eventually become similar to the flu. Humans will build immunity for these variants and as more variants develop over time they will become more mild. This is pretty much what I expected it to be from the beginning of 2020 since this is how viruses tend to be. They replicate and mutate. Wash, rinse, repeat. It’s a never ending cycle. The vaccines are not going to prevent anyone from contracting the virus but is intended to try to lessen the symptoms if you do get it. However, 1 year is not nearly enough time to make a quality vaccine. Most vaccines take several years of testing to develop.

With all that being said, they could find a way to play the game if they really wanted to. The NFL just pushed back multiple games so the NCAA could do the same if needed.

Good points. As COVID evolves, it will likely become more transmittable but less virulent, like most viruses. There is definitely a need to adapt the protocols as this happens. The NFL is being pretty nimble, and hopefully other sports will follow suit.

But....adapt AFTER uga forfeits their bowl. The VERY NEXT DAY!! That would be perfect.

There is no pecking order after the Citrus. The Outback, Gator, Dukes, Music City, Texas, and Liberty bowl are all considered the “second tier” SEC bowl games. The conference ultimately decides who goes to what game.

There also seems to possibly some word about the university of Miami having some COVID-related factors going on and if that will effect the Sun Bowl at all?

Sadly, Currie has now been completely out of contact for over 5 hours trying to secure an opponent. No one, including WF's Chancellor, seems to have a clue where he is. Reports are that he flew to Starkville, MS, to meet with Tghe Pirate about securing MSU for the bowl.

Developing..........

Great post.

Thoughts on this? The "layman's" answer is that the vaccines actually inhibit the development of natural immunity due to Covid infection. My take is those who take the vaccine incur some side effect risks while lowering their risk of death and severe symptoms however the unvaxed who recover from the virus appear to have significant and long lasting immunity from infection altogether:
