A&M to announce move to SEC in June?

I would rather see the Big XII make some very enticing offers to Arkansas and Iowa. The SEC should pull Georgia Tech away from the ACC and then trade South Carolina for Clemson and Vandy for Memphis.

Not to get sucked even more into this old debate, but I gotta ask, shouldn't expansion be about getting better? GT, Clemson, and Memphis? What would all of those COMBINED offer that A&M couldn't best on their own?

This would be very good for the SEC. Not only because of the TV markets, but because you would be giving recruits in one of the top five high school football states in the country, 13-14 NEW schools to choose from that would play in their own back yard. It's the same reasoning that South Florida makes sense in the Big East. Texas A&M could stick it to UT(exas), and offer recruits a chance to play on THE biggest college football stage in America.

And for the love of God, please no one argue that they are in anyway scared of adding another quality opponent to the league. Florida, Georgia, Tennesse, Auburn, Bama, LSU, etc... Like adding one or two more quality teams would change the undeniable fact that winning in the SEC is more cyclical than 13 year cicadas?

I don't think adding A&M will really do as much as some thing for recruiting, to be honest.

This would be great. I love A&M's traditions. I think they'd be a great fit in our league. The only question would be who to add along with them. I'd vote for FSU, VT, or Oklahoma in that order.... assuming that Texas didn't want to come.

Put FSU in the east with us and A&M in the west. I like A&M's traditions as well

Instead of adding a 14th team, maybe we should just kick out South Carolina.

Or we could kick out Auburn. They seem to be the Texas A&M of the SEC.

I'd love to have A&M, and I do believe Texas will either head for the Pac-12 or go independent when the Big XII implodes.

You do have to add a 14th team that makes sense though. Florida State has a natural rival and history, and they're also on the way back up, but I question what this really gains us.

Does Miami gain us a TV market? Would we let a team with facilities like Miami in at this point in our history?

VA Tech is in the same boat at FSU. Would they bring the D.C. market? No, probably not.

I'd love to have Clemson in the East to beat every year to help recruiting, but that doesn't help the conference at all.

So, who can you bring that brings a TV market, is geographical fit, etc. etc?

I wouldn't mind Oklahoma coming with A&M, as this could open up the entire mid-west. Auburn would have slide to the East though.

On a side note getting to College Station for a game from Knoxville seems both painful and expensive.

I'd still go, just sayin.

I just don't see a bunch of Texas fans tuning in to see the Aggies getting smacked by LSU/Bama/etc. I don't see the recruiting bump being much at all. I'm sure we'll get some new viewers, but I think the overall effect is overstated.

Well you're right on that account. Why would Texas fans be tuning in to see A&M games? Not sure anyone is suggesting that. It would be hard to argue that UT isn't the predominate team in that state, but last I checked, A&M is actual school, with an actual fanbase. And isn't Dallas like a top 6 TV market?

If we're just attracting A&M fans, are we really adding that much?

It's about expanding to bigger television markets. Yes, it would add a lot. I think you're under stating the importance of expanding to a new audience. Bottom line, the conference/schools get a dollar amount for each new television set they reach. Adding Texas would be huge.

How much more money are we talking? I'm pretty the SEC will get a lot a soon as it's time for a new deal.

Southwest flies to Dallas, doesn't it?

Seems like Austin is closer to College Station than Dallas.

Also you'd have to drive to Nashville to catch a Southwest flight, which I know isn't that big of a deal. Just sayin. I heard somewhere the other day that Southwest is thinking about moving into TYS. That would be nice.

I would rather not watch the Big XII disappear. I think the Arkansas and Iowa moves would make sense geographically and would come in as competitive teams in the Big XII.

As for the SEC additions: GT should be in the SEC, Memphis would be a better SEC program than Vandy is, and Clemson, historically, is better in all sports than South Carolina.

While the TV contracts for super-conferences bring vast amounts of revenue to the conferences, the larger geographic areas are tough on fans (and on teams that do not bring in much revenue).

...so your source is a guy on a message board quoting another guy on another message board
No source just speculating on another guy speculating. Just wondering if anyone had heard anything new on this subject. The thread was started this morning so I thought there might of been some inside info that I didn't know about.

I'm pretty sure the Texas Legislature has made it impossible for A&M to change conferences in the past, and i'm pretty sure they were considering the same actions last summer when A&M was supposedly leaving. I wouldn't mind A&M in the SEC.

Knoxville direct to Houston Intercontinental then a 2 HR drive. Approx 6 hours total travel, less than a drive to many current SEC towns.

Georgia Tech voluntarily chose to leave the SEC because they considered themselves superior to the rest of the league. Any university president who votes to allow that trash back in the league should be removed from their post immediately.
