A Possible Solution Presents Itself.

You can't realistically keep a coach who gets a suspension of a season or more. If the comments by the new NCAA president are to be taken at face value, that's exactly what he's about to get.

I know this is a discussion of an option if Bruce is suspended, but I have been thinking about the situation. Several years back, the NCAA gave SMU the death penalty for violations. It so devastated the program, it has never been done again, even though some believe Alabama should have suffered the same fate. In spite of Dez Bryant's suspension, I wonder if the NCAA would do something that might end a career and lead to legal issues down the road. At least Dez had the NFL to turn to. That is why I don't think a suspension will be for a year. That's my opinon, ought to be yours.

There are a whole bunch of teams that would be glad to trade resumes with Tennessee right now.
I was just thinking the Oakland, Charlotte and USC debacles would have at least put the train on sidetracks somewhere in the sticks.

do you expect Hamilton to be AD when this happens? The concensus seems to be he's on the way out.
A large number of people think it's a certainty that Hamilton will be gone if Pearl has to be terminated. I'm not one of them.

There are plenty of places Pearl can ply his trade if he's suspended from the NCAA. I'm sure there are NAIA institutions, JUCOs, and high schools that would be glad to have him.

Doubtful. My guess is that if Hamilton has to replace Pearl, he'll look to guys he dealt with during the last hiring process.

I pray if Pearl leaves so does Hammy, I don't want him replacing anyone.

Brown and Pearl utilize a different style of play. I doubt Brown could be successful using Pearl's playbook.

I think it may be a little far fetched, but I would take it though. It would probably limit players from transferring out.

I can't believe hat isn't getting flamed for this. This joins the cowher, gruden, and smith realm of plausibility. Btw larry has land in knoxville...

As part of the punishment, the NCAA will mandate that Tennessee must use Pearl's playbook after he is fired. This includes the guards playing keep away at center court until 5 seconds remaining on the shot clock.

lulz at the people who actually think this is a possibility... I've lived in Charlotte the entire time LB has been the coach of the Bobcats and that man wants NOTHING more than to retire and be done with coaching... He may get involved in an NBA team in some other capacity but I'll bet my house on him never coming near the Tennessee job IF it becomes available.

If, as becomes increasingly obvious, Pearl is suspended for at least a season and has to ultimately be terminated, the perfect coach to handle his absence/departure became available today. Larry Brown. How do you sell it to him? Simple. You tell him that Pearl is only being kept around out of loyalty and to ensure he is employable when his suspension ends. I raise that issure because if UT immediately fires him, there could be questions as to whether his suspension can be served while he's unemployed. That lets Brown, who has 3 or 4 good years left, settle in with the knowledge he's an interim coach in name only. It also gives you an extended window in which to seek out the long term answer. It's a win for everyone. Brown gets a big check without dealing with NBA egos, Pearl gets the issues resulting from his ethical lapse behind him, and UT keeps its basketball train on the tracks.
Larry Brown is not the answer here. He's already been at universitys that were pure basketball schools with a lot of success and knows the score here. He will not want to compete with football. As far as the big paycheck is concerned he already has enough money to wait for a better job than Tennessee. If and when Pearl is terminated ,whoever the A.D. is will need to bring in an up and coming coach that needs to prove himself. Larry Brown has nothing to prove as far as being a college coach.

Hat,

You have railed on Pearl for his misdeeds - dishonesty with respect to his secondary recruiting violations and attempted coverup.

Now you actually have the audacity to say that UT should attempt to hire Larry Brown in the event that Pearl is released! What the heck? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!!!! OMG...

When Larry Brown bolted from Kansas for the greener pastures of the NBA, he left under a cloud, as NCAA sanctions were levied against Kansas in the 1988–1989 season as a result of recruiting violations that took place during Brown's tenure. Among them, Kansas was banned from the 1989 NCAA Tournament—the only time a reigning champion has been banned from defending its title.

Morever, when Coach Brown was at UCLA (1979–1981), his team's appearance in the NCAA title game was vacated by the NCAA after two players were found to be ineligible—one of the few times a Final Four squad has had its record vacated. Following those issues Brown went back to the NBA.

Coach Brown's moral compass does not exactly lead one to the high road.

Can he recognize his house in a photo?

Larry Brown will be done with coaching when they put him in the ground.

maybe coaching from his couch.. but you won't see him on the sidelines coaching again.. He tried to get out of town last year and move back to PA to be with his family. He just stuck around and gave it another shot in Charlotte as a favor to MJ, which is the only reason he came to Charlotte in the first place.

Listen to ANY of his post-game interviews over the past 2-3 years.. The man has lost his intensity and desire to coach.... He's DONE
