Reread the original post. It is one person's opinion. 99% of the posts on this board are pretty much this, a poster's opinion. It does put into play that Calapari pays recruits (Cheatapari). This has not been proven.Mentioning ANYTHING at all in regards to a race (especially African American) will bring out the idiots who want to claim "Racism" at every turn.
I am not sure why some can't grasp the point the OP was trying to make.
Some Kids (and parents) may be inclined to attend a school where they feel more comfortable with the coach. In many cases the comfortability may be related to sharing a common background, including, but not limited to, their race.
Thats not racism. Thats a fact. You cannot bring Calipari into this argument, because a parent (myself included) would not be inclined to send their child under his wing because he would be a proper guiding force in their child's life. (See the rant on air against Terrence Jones). Players go to Cal because of the hand-out that everyone knows they get (except apparently for Cal) and he's a stepping stone to the NBA.
The OP was stating having a coach who fought his way through a less than perfect upbringing, worked his way through college, went to the NBA and now is coaching may pay dividends for a recruit (and the recruits parents) who is wavering between accepting a check from a Coach or playing for a man who has a proven record (although yet to be proven at Tenn) of know-how to becoming a successful leader and coach. The sad fact is that many (but not all) of these youths with less than perfect upbringings, including single-parenting, are African American. (That is not a statement encompassing the entire race).
That's not racism. Thats a valid point. People trying to claim its racists are the very ones who fuel the racial issues of today and keep them going.
There are broad generalizations and assumptions that seem to lump black people into having certain type of reaction based on the color of our new head coach's skin and his life story. For some reason, it also infers that this will have a major impact on people in the South.
I find the premise to be, quoting Cotton from another thread in response to a post from me, "wrong-headed".
I too find it interesting when words like race, racist, black, white, rich, and poor are brought up that some get all excited. There are racist white people. There are racist black people. Too think that people can't have a valid opinion on something because they are black or because they are white is short sighted.
Anybody that says that the original post and the discussion that it has spawned doesn't introduce race to the discussion isn't being honest. And that isn't really a bad thing.
Your response on this post brings up some great points. But many others have also have contributed counter points to the assumptions/possibilities layed out in the original post. And for disagreeing with the premise, they get bashed by the OP.
