you merge it with welfare. help out those who need it. the others need to stop milking the young.
I have to disagree. Raise the benefits for those that worked hard all their life.

Get the money to raise benefits from welfare. Cut welfare to the bone. Any able bodied person who does recieve welfare, should have to do public works on a 40 hr per week basis. You get the welfare check. You can clean the ditches, public buildings, sweep the sidewalks, or any other menial jobs that now cost taxpayers to maintain.

John Smith had it right in the beginning. You don't work, you don't eat.

i'm not in love with welfare either. but if you worked hard and saved well social security shouldn't be needed to survive. and certainly you don't need to have the young pay for it.

No...you really have zero clue as to how many Americans NEED their full SS benefit to live. Those of us who are younger have had the opportunity for our 401ks and IRAs to have grown much longer and rebound through down markets.

The statement in bold is a clear indication of IGNORANCE of this matter. There are so many retired vets who provided the very freedom for which you live by who need this money. They worked their azzes off like younever have just to have this benefit. SS isn't welfare.

It is apparent you can't think clearly in this matter or you either just don't know any better. I am beginning to think it is the latter.

In principle, not a bad idea. There are contingencies you haven't considered though

Ok, so we create a veterans fund and screw away ss.

Unbelievable. You are so out of touch within your bubble. There are people who worked very hard, saved every penny, bought a house, paid their mortgage, paid all their bills on time who barely have enough to pay their bills with their monhtly SS benefit. These are people in their 70s, 80s and 90s. Most all of us have had advantages they didn't have as far as tax sheltered investments and retirement plans.

How old are you anyway? Do you have parents or grandparents who lived during the depression? Do you have parents or grandparents who fought in the world wars?

I do and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt social security is more harm than good.

Again, what about those who did everything right in their 70s, 80s and 90s? Only borrowed for their house, paid all their bills on time, went to work every single day?

Tell me how you "know" beyond a shadow of a doubt social security is more harm than good?

What? We are going to do away with SS and ask some of our retired to live in worse conditions than they did when they were stimulating our economy, paying their bills on time and producing something?

When reason fails, start the emotional drivel, right?

If they did "everything right" then what is the problem? What do they need?

Everything I am stating is reasonable.

They need the benefit to live remotely close to the same measn as they did while working their azzes off.

Another one who can't see past the bubble they live in. Nice.

There are lots and lots of retired Americans who didn't have the investment advantages we have today as working adults. Simply putting money in a savings account isn't going to yield anyone enough to live on when they retire. What part of that do you not understand? Do you have any clue as to the negative impact on our economy if you took away 50% of the SS benefit our current retirees are getting?

How old are you?? How old are your parents?

It's no secret that truefan and I rarely agree. We agree on these points.

Why punish those who have worked and helped make this nation thrive. Punish the dead weight welfare leeches. Social Security is not welfare. It is a benefit that was paid for, and earned by the recipients.

You're stating they did "everything right" and then deserve to have others pay for them to maintain their standard of living. Absolutely nothing reasonable there.

Exactly what bubble do I live in? Please explain.

I am mid 30s, mom mid 60s, dad dead. What does any of that matter?

it was never to be a pension plan either, but punishing the dead weight will never happen with this administration

They paid into SS for 40-50 years. It's THEIR money.

I've paid in since I was 17 (32 years). I'll be damned if I'm gonna get screwed out of it without a fight.

I did not read all the way through this thread, maybe I have missed true's point. I agree with your post, it is their money. My issue would be with having the program to begin with.

what a bunch of crap. those same people have pensions many of which are guaranteed. things we don't currently have. anyone who has worked hard, has paid off their house, and saved every penny and still needs social security to survive must be a blithering idiot. statistics show that the old are the richest people in america and the young are the poorest. when social security was created the exact opposite was true. as an obama supporter i know you believe in income redistribution, but you really want it to go from the poor to the rich?

bs. you didn't pay into it. it was a tax plain and simple. it has always been a tax. just like our income taxes go to welfare and other ridiculous programs. you don't deserve it anymore than some guy paying taxes for 32 years who goes on unemployment.

I agree..I would be more than willing to help the ones that paid into the system, but what do we do about the illegal aliens that are costing us tax payers just a massive amount of $$$?
