A recap for those not keeping score.

what a bunch of crap. those same people have pensions many of which are guaranteed. things we don't currently have. anyone who has worked hard, has paid off their house, and saved every penny and still needs social security to survive must be a blithering idiot. statistics show that the old are the richest people in america and the young are the poorest. when social security was created the exact opposite was true. as an obama supporter i know you believe in income redistribution, but you really want it to go from the poor to the rich?

There is no doubt you can look in the mirror to find one of these.

There is no way you can know what I support. I voted for Obama for a couple of reasons, neither of which was for income redistribution...so STFU on things you dont' know about.

Again, these people paid this money into SS for 30, 40 and 50 years. Get your facts straight on this issue and then get back to me. You're completely missing the point

Get back to us when you can discuss this intelligently. Right now, you are completely clueless with your ideas.

I am fully expecting to get screwed on the SS issue. I don't care who is in office, that whole thing is a mess. I would be cool with forgoing SS if they would let me put into my 401K pre-tax and let me withdraw from it tax free. They can keep their SS crap, no one will be able to live on it anyway.

Now those who grew up in the 60s may have incorrectly thought of it as a retirement plan, but personally i was raised that i shouldn't have to rely on the government for anything.
.

Most of us were raised that way. I planned so I don't have to rely on it as many baby boomers have, that doesn't erase the fact that many people in their 70s, 80s and 90s worked their azzes off and DIDN'T have the investment vehicles for retirement as the younger generations. What part of that do you not understand. I know you are some kind of stock broker, but you don't seem to get the most simple things. A savings account for these people wasn't going to yield enough money to support retirement to some equitable standard for which they lived while they were working. And the fact they are just getting the money back they paid in to the SS account. It is NOTHING like welfare nor has it EVER been intended to work in the same.

You're totally wrong on this issue.

you do realize that pension plans were replaced by 401k plans. pension plans are far more reliable when it comes to retirement income. 401k plans replaced pension plans because they are FAR CHEAPER to the employer. Why? because the benefits are less.

and you inherited a bunch of money. let's not act like you know how it feels to work for a living.

There you go, making your dumb and uninformed comments. I havent'' spent a dime of the family stuff. Nor will I for a number of yearsUp until three years ago when I came to work for a university, I worked my azz off 50-60-70 hours a week spending time at plants and traveling all over this world in the automotive industry. You have no clue. I have produced expontetially more in my life than you could ever think about. You produce nothing, so STFU. You're making yourself look more stupid with each post

I see. So you paid for college? did you pay for your first car? how about the downpayment on your house? you have no idea what it feels like to worry that the president is going to tax you and your children into poverty. and THAT is why you voted for obama. live life in a real person's shoes. a life without having things handed to you. and we will see how liberal you want to be.

I don't need an education from you on investment vehicles. LOL. You're profession is a dime a dozen. I am my own investment advisor. What do you want to bet I get better rates of return on my investments than you do on yours? $1,000?

Lets see. I will answer your questions one at a time.

No...I was on athletic scholorship for undergraduate. I worked to pay for graduate school. Didn't borrow a dime. Paid for it out of my salary.

I saved for five years to make a downpayement on my first house.

I don't worry about things I can't control.

And again, I have worked my azz off and had nothing handed to me until my father passed on. Is that my fault???

You are getting your azz handed to you this morning. If I were you, I would quit while you are still not too far behind

and truly normal kids who have never taken a dime of family money in their life can play golf enough to get an athletic scholorship. it's a cheap sport right?

You are sounding more stupid with each post. Let it rest, your are popping off on matters you have no clue about.

I grew up middle class. Maybe my definition of wealthy is different than yours.

You really need to stop. You don't want to be a fool all day, do you?

why be ashamed of who you are? it's very very sad. no one blames you for growing up rich. you just need to realize how that has shaped your views.

middle class kids don't have trust funds buddy and nor can they play golf every day.

YOu have much to learn. I am done with you until you can get a more informed outlook on things. Many of the PGA tour players grew up middle class.

Whom are you referring to when you speak of a trust fund?

I grew up on military bases. Maybe that is why I am such a strong supporter of the military, you think? Maybe it is why I live frugally.
My father is the perfect example of someone who never made a ton of money in salary, but understood saving and investing better than most Wall Street executives.

Again, you are making some pretty dumb and uninformed assumptions.

No go back to earning your living by hustling others. The next time you actually produce something will be the first time. Does it bother you that you make money off other people's money. Are you a financial planner or advisor? Do you even know the difference. If not, I will explain it to you

As I said earlier, you have much to learn to get over that snot nosed, punk attitude of yours

i hate to break it to you but the overwhelming majority of americans work in the service industry meaning they are making money off other people's money. i'm a money manager meaning i manage peoples money. and i manage a lot of it. that includes financial planning and advising.

Again, what about those who did everything right in their 70s, 80s and 90s? Only borrowed for their house, paid all their bills on time, went to work every single day?

Tell me how you "know" beyond a shadow of a doubt social security is more harm than good?

What? We are going to do away with SS and ask some of our retired to live in worse conditions than they did when they were stimulating our economy, paying their bills on time and producing something?

1.) Oh I don't know, bankrupting the country maybe?

2.) No.

You are a college administrator????????

Everything I am stating is reasonable.

They need the benefit to live remotely close to the same measn as they did while working their azzes off.

Another one who can't see past the bubble they live in. Nice.

There are lots and lots of retired Americans who didn't have the investment advantages we have today as working adults. Simply putting money in a savings account isn't going to yield anyone enough to live on when they retire. What part of that do you not understand? Do you have any clue as to the negative impact on our economy if you took away 50% of the SS benefit our current retirees are getting?

How old are you?? How old are your parents?

1.) It is not the responsibility of the government to be the care taker.

2.) I am 28

3.) 72 and 66.

They paid into SS for 40-50 years. It's THEIR money.

I've paid in since I was 17 (32 years). I'll be damned if I'm gonna get screwed out of it without a fight.

1.) Last time I checked, all the money that the government spends and wastes is our money!

2.) You should have never been forced to pay in to it.
