Without 30 pages of comparing Pearl and Martin and another 15 with just Pearls name....who are your top 5 that would possible take this job?

1) Lawrence Frank (Tennessee ties, will not sniff a NBA coaching job anytime soon unlike the last time when we were searching for a coach, is unhappy in Brooklyn, worked with the AD during our last coaching search, runs an offense that would be highly successful at the college level IMO. Recruiting is questionable but NBA experience and his connections has to help.

2) Tim Floyd (a winner everywhere he's been. Hes just paying his dues for the Mayo situation that I believe wasn't really his fault. Would be an instant upgrade over what we have now, that's for sure!)

3) Steve Fisher (yeah I know...if we hire him why even bother firing Pearl? This guy is a great coach and I'm shocked he hasn't went somewhere by now. )

4) Gregg Marshall (just for fun and highly unlikely)

5) Rick Byrd (should be higher and I see Tennessee as the only job he'd consider. Several ties to the school and Knoxville.)

Ill give you Fisher but I'd atleast offer. Marshall is a pipe dream but not sure I agree about Floyd. He's landing a major job somewhere.

I think Floyd is a good coach, just don't know if I trust him with NCAA issues

Frank was an assistant here under O'Neill. Was my coach at a Tennessee basketball camp too.

Rick Byrd x 1000. No long coaching search, just fire CM and Byrd is coaching the next day. Easy peasy.

Lawarance Frank will probably take over for Kidd once their Owner/GM realizes they screws up hiring Kidd. Marshall has already been passed over 3 times by us he'd probably laugh at an offer. Byrd is questionable recruiting? If you are going to get Floyd you might as well get Bruce back.

Byrd deserves a big time shot like Tennessee. What he has done at Belmont (my alma mater) is remarkable. A music school with an enrollment of less than 4000, literally next door to Vanderbilt, and he's making the tourney now on a regular basis.

There are plenty of reasons that Byrd makes sense, but plenty of reasons he doesn't as well. He barely got a sniff three years ago, and hasn't gotten any younger. Recruiting for him could be a challenge, and we already have people clammoring about our recruiting classes, and where they are ranked. Byrd probably wouldn't sniff a top-150 player (and could probably still win without them), but the fans don't like winning in unconventional fashion. To most, it has to be flashy and sexy, loaded with 4* & 5* talent. The Butler model of winning (or Belmont), won't be well-received IMO, even if it is winning. Our fickle fans will demand more.

That's why most ADs could not care less about who fans think is the best candidate, they do what's best for the program.

Byrd is a great coach and the window for such a jump to a bigger school has past. He will retire a legend at Belmont and that's the way it should be

1) He's who I wanted last time.
2) If we're worried about CBP's NCAA baggage, then I doubt we look at him, although I agree he would be a definite upgrade.
3) Methuselah thinks he's old.
4) Ain't happening - it would be a lateral move at best for him.
5) Not sure how much this would energize the fan base, although no doubt the guy can coach.

This. I said this in another thread. I think he makes 1.8 mil. He's worth 3 million, but doubt we go above 2 million for a coach.
It is my belief that our list will be very different from that of the powers that be. Not that I followed them nor am I a basketball guru but I do not remember FSU being a basketball mecca under the Hart Foundation.
