Rhetorical question was rhetorical. Thanks for dropping that knowledge on me though. To think all this time, I thought ADs surveyed and polled the fanbase before making hires. Who knew?

I knew you were being sarcastic. I just thought the best way to answer a wise-azz like yourself is with a simple one word reply.

Pot, meet kettle. Your first response had more than a faint hint of wise-ass itself.

You'll also note that I never implied that the AD should or would take fan thought into consideration when making hires.

Why would Byrd leave Belmont? It's a better basketball job than UT, he is able to recruit coachable players, and at this point, he has a comfortable life and may not be as motivated by more money.

His Belmont team would be a nightmare for this Tennessee team to play.

Rick Byrd x 1000. No long coaching search, just fire CM and Byrd is coaching the next day. Easy peasy.

He is a good coach, and his teams are always fundamentally sound, but could he recruit great players to Tennessee?

He would have to recruit different players than what we have to run his system. His system requires the ability to run sets, work hard to get the open shot and shoot a lot of 3s.

All of this would be new concepts to this team.

Shooting a lot of 3's wouldn't be a new concept. Making them would.

Running sets and working hard to get open would be new concepts to 90% of the top-150 high school players in the country.

The dribble-drive offenses are ruining basketball......and GET OFF MY LAWN!

I do enjoy how Belmont's teams move without the ball, set screens away from the ball and then either go inside/out or skip pass to the open man for the 3 pointer. Over play that pass though and you get beat back door for a lay up......that the Bruins will hit with the regularity expected from a college player.

I would bet Byrd has never had a Top 150 player on his team.

I bet he hasn't either. There's the rub though. I think he'd need more talented kids to compete consistently, but those kids are harder to coach a system to, and recruiting them for a guy who has neer likely done it, comes with a steep learning curve.

Lawarance Frank will probably take over for Kidd once their Owner/GM realizes they screws up hiring Kidd. Marshall has already been passed over 3 times by us he'd probably laugh at an offer. Byrd is questionable recruiting? If you are going to get Floyd you might as well get Bruce back.

The Lawrence Frank situation is a tricky one. Brooklyn either made him the highest paid NBA assistant because Kidd really wanted him (which is possible because they've always remained somewhat close) or they did it because Kidd was inexperienced and if that failed (which it has) Frank is already there. I have a hard time believing the coach in waiting theory because he's had a rough go around the previous two times and the front office supported demoting Frank yo being a paper pusher and kicking him out of practices. Maybe its just common sense for the front office to support their head coach but I took it as Frank already has one foot out.

I read somewhere that his wife was sick so that area was ideal. Still, I don't see any other gms giving him a shot anytime and if he doesn't rejoin Docs staff I could see it. He would definitely be one of those that needs a ton of control which doesn't translate to our school and it would likely be a stepping stone job but I want him badly

And, that's why I don't think Byrd would be interested in coaching at Tennessee.
