The Lawrence Frank situation is a tricky one. Brooklyn either made him the highest paid NBA assistant because Kidd really wanted him (which is possible because they've always remained somewhat close) or they did it because Kidd was inexperienced and if that failed (which it has) Frank is already there. I have a hard time believing the coach in waiting theory because he's had a rough go around the previous two times and the front office supported demoting Frank yo being a paper pusher and kicking him out of practices. Maybe its just common sense for the front office to support their head coach but I took it as Frank already has one foot out.

I read somewhere that his wife was sick so that area was ideal. Still, I don't see any other gms giving him a shot anytime and if he doesn't rejoin Docs staff I could see it. He would definitely be one of those that needs a ton of control which doesn't translate to our school and it would likely be a stepping stone job but I want him badly
But how possible is it? What are his ties here that you mentioned? I'd love to have him though.

Sorry, but I don't get the joke....

When Pastner is not busy hating Tennessee, he bides his time disparaging Tennessee...from the comedic ______ hates us series :)

Why would Byrd leave Belmont? It's a better basketball job than UT, he is able to recruit coachable players, and at this point, he has a comfortable life and may not be as motivated by more money.

His Belmont team would be a nightmare for this Tennessee team to play.

He went to Tennessee and his family lives here. He already said Tennessee is something he'd really consider. He'd come.

Not all of these have Knoxville or TN ties that I know of, but all are very well thought of in basketball circles:

1. Fred Hoiberg (Iowa State)
2. Dave Fizdale (Miami Heat Assistant - Butch and Spoelstra have a relationship)
3. J.B. Bickerstaff (Timberwolves Assistant)
4. Steve Wojciechowski (Duke Assistant Coach)
5. Orlando Antigua (KY Assistant - helps us and hurts them...win / win)

He coached under o'neal at Tennessee and has always kept in contact with the program (speaking arrangements etc. .) And he helped our horrible AD with candidates when we hired Martin as an advisor.

A lot of names being thrown out but none of them excite any of you more than Bruce Pearl. He will coach again and he will win. Might as well be here.

Also its already been said that Tennessee is the only college coaching job Frank would likely consider leaving the NBA for. He's also turned down a couple of big east jobs recently and at Detroit

Hoiberg played for Iowa State. He won't leave there unless he's canned, which won't be happening for quite some time.

My list short list
1. Lawrence Frank
2. Buzz Williams
3. Ben Howland

Solid List. Marquette isn't paying Williams as much as he deserves. I wonder how much it would take Howland to come here. I'm fine with either of those coaches.

Howland is unemployed right now right? I don't think Buzz would take the job but it'd be worth a shot.

Minnesota is doing well this year but not enough time to see IMO. He needs to stay put for more than year.

Howland has no interest in doing television while out of coaching, and as he told Jeff Goodman of ESPN, he does't care which portion of the country he coaches and lives in. "I want to go somewhere I can win," he told Goodman. "My quality of life is about winning."

He would be a HUGE get. Someone will hire him and I bet he does very well wherever he goes.
