A telltale sign at the Vol Walk

I'm saying there's a direct correlation "pal".

When you are the QB, you are the leader of the team. You need to look, act, and play like a champion. Dobbs did neither of those 3.

Wait, wasn't Manning praised for looking "super serious" on the Vol Walk? I don't ever remember him acting "fired up".

Nah, I just figured if you want to make comparisons they should be valid ones, bro.

You need to chill. All I was stating was that a Freshman QB can have success in this league. That the freshman excuse is weak. Maybe just maybe Dobbs isn't a very good QB, regardless of how long he has been in college.

Maybe he isn't, but comparing him to Winston is all kinds of dumb. He obviously isn't Winston, and he will never be Winston. You know who else won't ever be Winston? Pretty much every freshman D1 QB in America.

Johnny Manziel says hello also

Also a redshirt. A true freshman playing lights out especially being thrown into the situation is rare.

Hell even Peyton struggled a little at first. Not every QB is going to be effing Peyton manning.

He's a kid! He's 6 months removed from high school. It amazes me that people thought that a true freshman thrust into the belly of the beast would be the second coming of Tee Martin. Dobbs will be fine, and if he doesn't work out we have options (pun intended)

For the first time I got to be at the very front of the crown for the Vol Walk. It was great. I got to shake the players hands and basically be about a foot from all of them. Here's what I saw.

AJ- Cocky, laughing, slapping hands with everyone.

Rajion- Smiling, acknowledging the crowd

Lane- Same as Rajion

Maggit-Firing up the crowd. Talking to everyone. Telling the whole crowd Tennessee was going to take care of business.

Dobbs- Completely and utterly terrified. Looking straight forward. Hands to his side, not acknowledging the crowd.

I told everyone I was with it was a bad sign. This kid has zero confidence, zero leadership, and very little skill. He's not an SEC quarterback.

That is all.

Peyton Manning walked stoically through every Vol Walk for four years. Never knew that meant he had zero leadership. Obviously not going crazy on the Vol Walk means you're a terrible quarterback.

Florida State is in the ACC. Bit of a difference.

To his defense, I was at the alabama game with family from alabubba and well it was my first trip down but they showed me some of the traditions they have and one was the players walking out of the hotel they all stay at the night before home games and when the players walked out they all had game face take care of business and looking straight ahead.... No smiles... No laughing ... Straight business.... I'm not sure if that's a Saban thing or just mindset or what but that's what I'd like to see... Just my opinion but at the end of the day I'm a vol fan... Just happened to be with the Nama side of my family and witnessed something relevant to the post

Actually, the Freshman card is legit. There's a reason why the best teams are full of 3rd and 4th year players in the two deep. Freshman, especially 3rd string freshman quarterbacks, are not expected to contribute at a high level 4 months after arriving on campus. It amazes me the expectations that some of you guys put on these kids when 99.99% of us on VN don't even have half the athleticism of these kids.

And then you have Jameis Winston about to win the heisman. Why do our freshman suck?

Truth. Been saying it since fall camp. Not ready. Does not make him a bad person or football player. Just not ready. Which IS a reflection on the coaching staff that he is not ready and they are still playing him.

But, the question begs...who was going to play at QB?

Worley...out with tendons in his throwing hand post-sugery...from what has been reported, hasn't even gripped a ball yet.

Peterman...out with broken thumb...has been taking snaps in practice at about 85% according to reports.

Ferguson...some reports saying broken tibia...but this still makes him the "backup" at game time...so do you throw another TRUE freshman (actually one that has less time than Dobbs in the system) into a game just for the sake of change?

Oh wait - we could have played AJ Johnson or Pig Howard, they both had some experience in high school at QB.

The argument of the coaching staff playing a guy that isn't ready is really the argument of the staff playing the only guy that is healthy...

Starting quarterback for a D-1 SEC school. Can't play the freshman card. He has to grow up and be a leader.

I can name several UT qb's who did fine as freshman at UT....Dobbs however is not one of them...I hope one day he will but he has shown me absolutely nothing that he will be...The kid can't throw....At all..He has zero tds in 3 and a half games this season....Worely is the only choice for next season until the other freshman can prove they are worthy and ready.

This kid does have leadership skills. If you will remember, or maybe you didn't even know, he went into an offensive line meeting and told the coach he wanted to talk to the team the week before the Missouri game (I think that was the game). He told them that he had confidence in them, and everyone was talking about how rare, and exciting to see a freshman doing something like that. Give this kid a freaking break. I hope you are not insinuating that we lost the game because of him, because we did not. I have met this kid, and talked to him a little bit, and he is one of the most respectful and nicest kids you will ever meet. Who cares how he looks at the Vol Walk. That has no indication of how good or bad they are going to do during the game.

because he is a redshirt freshman playing for a team that is at least twice as talented as every other team in their conference, not a 4th string true freshman thrown into 3 top 10 opponents whose confidence is down right now.

I was in the front row of people at the Torchbearer when the VolWalk began, and I can personally confirm that Dobbs broke away from the team, walked under the rope dividers, and came over to meet a young fan there for his first game, shook his hand, smiled, etc, before re-joining his walking teammates. There was no stoicism or fear then.....I'm just sayin'.

Yeah. This approach hasn't fared well for Tiger Woods either...

Yeah, because we all know that when one freshman QB (who is a redshirt freshman, btw) has an outstanding year, that means that all true freshman QBs should be measured to that standard and sent to their rightful place in Division 3 if they don't produce immediate dividends.

Hell, he probably isn't a VFL either. You see that kid yesterday? He didn't talk to the fans,
and then he punted a baby that was
wrapped in an orange blanket.

How far was the punt? Was it downed inside the 20? If so, I will allow it.

We 150% lost because of him. That is not even close to disputable.
