A vote for Huckabee...

I will never understand why people even bother letting the abortion or homosexuality issue affect their vote. Neither issue will ever be settled by the election of one candidate.

I see your point, but while there might not be total resolution of an issue in either direction during a Presidential term, a policy shift or judicial appointments can have long lasting effects.

I don't think anybody expects the President to be able to snap his fingers and make new policy on these issues . . . but there's no doubt that winning elections matters when it comes to nominating judges.

Yeah...and if we get lucky, the next President will give us options as great as the bastion of judicial prowess that is Harriet Miers. Geez...what was he thinking....

That was such a bad idea that even talk radio killed it.

exactly. Ruthie BG has done a tremendous job of making well reasoned and rational judgments with her intelligence. Ditto Clarence T.

not really. just asking how smart one really needs to be to knee jerk to the absurdly liberal or absurdly conservative view on every case.

Well...I would like to see the court have better members from that - and Miers apparent complete lack of judicial experience really, really bothered me.

I also see your point. I was a little strong in my wording I suppose, but with everything else our President needs to focus on at the current time (and every election that I've been allowed to vote for), abortion and homosexuality are very low on my concern scale. If I had two candidates that I supported equally and one said they were for abortion while the other was against it, I'd vote pro-life. But right now I just don't consider it an important enough issue.
