About Nico

Next year will be the same and we will be wondering why this coach stuck with Guarantano
Seriously? This is the dumbest comparison ive started to see. JG was a loser who was a liability every time stepped foot on the field and was a perennial QB who was only good enough to get us to the “bubble” mark after 12 games. Nico and even Milton have never been anywhere close to that.

It's not just Nico. This offense has been bad now 2 years running. Milton often looked lost as well and we all said it was him. I think we need a different OC. The scheme, route trees and simplistic running game says there is a need there..

I was listen to some pregame content earlier this week from some Ohio State fans (different take). They had cited our WR core was not impressive. They called out Thornton and White as being good (but White has been injured most of the year) and mentioned us not having much after that.

I agree. The big issue has been our WRs.
It’s been a problem for 2 years

He is unable to adjust his throws. Every time he had a ball batted down, there was a wide open receiver. Every time.
That’s not on the QB. That’s on OTs getting pushed all over the place. Campbell and Heard just didn’t pan out.

I’ll call it now, GMac will have the better career. Not because of talent, but Nico had way too much pressure.
Always suspect of Tennessee private school players who can’t win state titles. I’d love to be wrong, SEC isn’t like playing Baylor.
They don’t seem to fight to get open. It’s like they run the route and if they are covered then they were just covered. No attempt to try to get open.
we lack athleticism at the spot. We have backups as starters in all spots and they can only fight so much before Nico is sacked, runs or forces it.

I counted four batted balls at the line of scrimmage. This dude must be looking at his target from the snap
It is an occasional weakness in his game. Seems to happen when the defense is getting pressure or when the defensive scheme is challenging.

We've also seen games where he quickly and consistently goes through his reads.

Tennessee needs to spend more NIL funds to hire a backup QB. Nico missed throws and open receivers. He held the ball too long. He was too slow on his release. There needs to be another option.
There it is!!! The Joe Milton-ing of Nico. You can always count on canniVols to kick our players when they're down, even if they're only bending down or kneeling tying their shoelaces.

Having a conversation about Nico , the O-line, receivers not getting open, is good debate, but has anyone notice Ohio St scored 42 points ? Almost every time they touched the ball they scored.

Nico never competed and earned the QB position which is never a good situation.
How so? He gets here winter 2022, backed up Joe his Freshman year..redshirts. Played lights out against Iowa last bowl..who does he have to beat out? Gaston, Benji Shuler? A QB1 is only as good as his OL will allow him to be.

I do think, and have said even when it was uncool, that Nico is closer to JG than being the next Hooker. The one thing that gives hope is that he hasn't played behind a competent pass blocking line or with receivers that can create space. That still gives me optimism.

Face mask changed the trajectory of the game from the opening series

I respectfully disagree. If you have a defensive lineman coming at you with his arms raised, lower your right arm and throw it to his left side. Use a side arm throw. Nico can't do that.

My only hope is our massive fans numbers who attended, exhibited more grace in our defeat, than the canniVols here.

I might have sent the house once or twice and got a penalty for killing Howard, but that's just me. Wouldn't have mattered the dline was getting whopped anyway..

Which sparks another debate that he should have been playing last year.

I 10000% agree... I was flamed for saying such the minute we lost to Bama and were out of the running for the SEC east title. Love Joe Milton, but the year was over then so giving Nico some meaningful snaps against some top tier teams in the SEC would have been very beneficial.

What do you care? Here's an idea, keep the QB you feel sorry for, who is not good, and pay him millions of dollars, just because you like him. Continue to support him, no matter how bad the situation. Spread the misery across the entire program, the players, the donors, the fan base and all of Tennessee. Ruin your program. That would fulfill your socialist utopia.
