You should see the Raleigh/ Durham area. There are tons of DC transplants that have moved to the area recently.
Western NC is a lot like that as well. Except replace DC transplants with Florida ones. As far as VT being a cultural fit,I don't know how it is in Blacksburg, but from personal experience and knowing people in the area,Southwest Virginia is very much southern culturally (and I mean that in a good way. I'll be living there soon)
I agree. I would think that UNC and UVA would be a more natural fit academically and culturally, however geographically the SEC would give UNC 3 border states and a 4th if UVA came along .UNC and UVA would presumably get the first call from both conferences (the SEC and the Big 10). What those two end up deciding really determines a lot as far as how the rest of the realignment ends up playing out.
Only half-joking,but yeah as a brand,UNC is getting that call first off if that indeed happens. They have way too much to add not to be looked at.
I think UNC and UVA bring more value to the SEC, but I think from an overall perspective they’re a better fit in the B1G. Despite the fact that they had they’re AFAM program that was indeed a joke, they’re still a very good school. Their commitment to football is questionable, but the basketball program is obviously elite, as well as other non-revenue sports, such as women’s soccer .UNC and UVA are better fits with the SEC because they are flagship state universities. Even if UNC has run fake classes, I still think we shouldn't exclude them on academic grounds.
I have zero interest in VT or NCSU. They would pull the conference down imo.
Not a fan of expansion but not confident it can be stopped.
I think they might SAY that about "culture" to save face; but if they go that way I think it will be because they think it would be easier to win there than in the SEC. In others words, the same reason Miami and FSU chose the ACC when SEC offered back in the day. At least the latter two were more honest (or transparent) about it.I hate expansion, but we have to get the best possible when the time comes.
I have the sinking feeling UNC and UVA will consider themselves more attuned to the B1G culturally.
I could be very wrong, but I think is my gut feeling they will play a coy game with both conferences.
I don't feel like VT doesn't works well enough for us, but I could be off-base. NCSt would be like TAMU, pretty good, but not the cool kid in the neighborhood.
I don’t know about saving face. I think it’s more that Public Ivies tend to cling to that reputation. They’re in sort of a no-man’s-land between the large private and general public universities.I think they might SAY that about "culture" to save face; but if they go that way I think it will be because they think it would be easier to win there than in the SEC.
I’d love to know the expectations that some of the ADs and fans have that are wanting to potentially leave for the SEC or B1G. UNC nor NC State has won an ACC Championship since the Carter Administration. There’s no way either school could compete for championships in the SEC or B1GI think they might SAY that about "culture" to save face; but if they go that way I think it will be because they think it would be easier to win there than in the SEC. In others words, the same reason Miami and FSU chose the ACC when SEC offered back in the day. At least the latter two were more honest (or transparent) about it.
See Missouri. Big 8 Champions, 1969I’d love to know the expectations that some of the ADs and fans have that are wanting to potentially leave for the SEC or B1G. UNC nor NC State has won an ACC Championship since the Carter Administration. There’s no way either school could compete for championships in the SEC or Big 12.
The expectation is more money. It's not about winning.I’d love to know the expectations that some of the ADs and fans have that are wanting to potentially leave for the SEC or B1G. UNC nor NC State has won an ACC Championship since the Carter Administration. There’s no way either school could compete for championships in the SEC or B1G
