I think it is the responsibility of the losing team to throw up the white flag. Mizzou didn’t do that. They had a 4th down attempt thwarted by a false start. They kept throwing the ball and trying to score to make the game look competitive. Their starters were still in for UT’s last two scores.

Also we can’t forget UF. The Vols were up 38-21 with 7 minutes left and called off the dogs. UT almost let USCe back into the game last year after starting ti try to run clock
I saw it exactly like this. Missouri kept trying to pound the rock, so I take that as not wanting us to let up either.

Besides, it's not like we ran some kind of trick play or did a fake punt or something. We ran our usual offense and Milton has a cannon....... things happen.

Missouri could've made some subs to signal they were done. They didn't. They answered the bell and kept punching. Keep swinging at me and I'll keep punching you in the mouth.

That's true about Missouri keeping the starters in, but this was apples and oranges from the Florida game. 38-21 with 7 minutes left is still technically a game, but 52-24 with about 5 minutes left and their defense on fumes is game over.

Rule of thumb, I suppose, is that as long as the other team has their starters in and is running their offense, don't take your foot off the gas.
If Theyre on fumes, why are they still in if it's "not a game"?

TBH, I'm a bit mixed about Heupel running up the score like that. Now that I think about it, I think we should've just taken a kneel at the 1 yard line. I firmly believe that what comes around goes around, and we would likely be livid if the same were done to us.

If they can't stop our backups though, I guess it's ok. Again, I'm mixed about it.

Why does it matter? Would Missouri feel better about a 59-24 score versus 66-24?? It wouldn’t bother me if another team’s backups scored on us late. It’s a 60 minute game…. Missouri could’ve run the ball and clock if they wanted to give up. In reality, it also gave their defensive backups an opportunity to get on the field and play real defense as well.

Can’t disagree

Unfortunately you don't have a dog in the fight, neither do I, neither does any UT fan or Mizzou fan. This was about Drink running his mouth about Tennessee in the off-season for no apparent reason. Heupel showed no mercy. Shame on them for not being able to stop our backup players.

“I thought you were going to introduce my record,” Drinkwitz said. “But with the latest allegations against Tennessee, let’s hold up on what my record is because I expect them to vacate some wins and that’s gonna help my record a little bit.”

Our back-up players work their tails off all week at practice. They live their lives to the standard set forth by the powers that be at UT. Good Lord forbid, we very well may need some of these guys in crunch time due to injury. When they get the chance to get into a game, they BETTER play to win and keep the gas pedal down. They have earned the right to perform at a high level on the field of play. They deserve the joy of celebrating in the end zone after watching the other guys they practice with all week long doing it all the time. Coach has a responsibility to these guys, and I'm damn glad he coached them the same way as the first teamers. Go Vols!

This is not a story. No Missouri coach was complaining. Honestly, I think if you have that mindset, you shouldn’t be in coaching. This was based off of Rick Neuheisel’s comments. Who, btw, is not in coaching. Announcers shouldn’t even make those dumb comments. Broadcast the game and speak on the plays.

The whole thing is a media created (and few disgruntled opposing fans) nothing burger. When the backups came in for the UT-Martin game in the second half according to his comments after the game coach was not happy with their execution and said they needed more put in more work. And it looks like they put it in. Glad to see it because it's a long season and we might need some of them guys.

Reminds me of a story Lou Holtz used to tell about when he was the coach at William & Mary and they played West Virginia which was coached by Lou's good friend, Bobby Bowden. The game was the expected blow-out and when Lou gave Bobby the post-game handshake, he asked, "Bobby, couldn't you have held the score down some?" Bobby replied, "Lou, that was your job."

We’ve got a Qb who plays mop up but could go in the draft if he decided to leave early! And probably a first round or so based solely on upside potential!

TN has a strong chance to be in the CFB playoff. Seeing us put up 66 on a defense that has been pretty good all year and being perceived this week as "bad sports" certainly won't hurt our consideration at the conclusion of the season. The playoff selection committee isn't going to say, "these guys were bad sports against Mizz, let's not take the 66 they put up in consideration".

It's not like we were running it up in the last few minutes against an opponent that wasn't credible. In addition, looked like just about all backups in the game.

You sound like the idiots spilling beer all over everyone because you have no courtesy or respect for others. It isn't crying. It's called class.
No it's called business. As in taking care of it. Everybody loved Tennessee for the last 15 years because we were pushovers and when we were good we didn't finish. The lovable losers.

No more.

Joe Milton's passes were beautiful things to behold. If you can appreciate that, you need to find another home

Went to the 247 team boards. UK is rather sad. They basically feel like the Stoops regime has run its course and that he's not bringing the intensity that he displayed when he first got there. The one funny part is their return to the "Oh well, it doesn't matter, basketball season is here and that's all we really care about" mentality.

Alabama is strange. I expected some negativity but generally they are thrilled with the win and talking like they are still int he running for the NC.
They probably still are in the running. Somehow

Starting qb throwing td passes in the 4th when up 49-14. This td was literally a highlight shown and celebrated on ESPN
