According to TOS JR Sandlin is no longer the Director of Recruiting for football

He handles a lot of the marketing. The "Rise to the Top" thing was his idea, the 102 letters to the recruit was his idea(he did it sort of at bama), as well as a lot of other stuff. Everything you see Tennessee doing right now is his plan. He's working close with Butch and advising on how to Tennessee more visible with recruits. Not saying he makes or breaks Tennessee recruiting, but he's done a VERY good job so far.

I just thought that was UT's version of Adidas' "Rise to the Occasion" theme.

Basically. He organizes how to effectively communicate to the recruits. He really is the best in the country. It's easy to get a program visible and communicate to individual recruits, but he does it very effectively.

How long did he hold the position?

My guess is the average age of the posters in here is around 10 or 11. Every conversation doesn't need to be turned into a joke.

"Whatever is fair in love and war is also fair in crime fighting"

"The true crimefighter always carries everything he needs in his utility belt, Robin"

"We are creating justice, Alfred. How can that ever be a mistake?"

You've been here almost two years, you should know there are only two things on VN: jokes and rumors.

I would disagree -- I think he has done a

Phenomenal job so far.

How long has he been here? I love this guy (no homo) just from the quality of his work.

Bingo, it's like the job Dooley used to have. The guy in charge of recruiting is the head coach.

Not necessarily. The head coach may have the final say but it's the director of recruiting that organizes and strategizes. Butch has done a great job, but Sandlin should get a lot of credit for how well he's been able to communicate and brand the program. On top of that, a lot of what Butch does is from Sandlin's advising.

Yes I agree, he doesn't get the credit he deserve. I almost see as a campaign manager to the president. The president gets all the visibility but the campaign manager does a lot of the behind grunt work that we'll never know about.

This isn't as a big a deal as someof you think, hence the comedic response from many.

I still think Butch is going to do a great job recruiting. I just really liked the job Sandlin did while he was here. But apparently he was rubbing certain people the wrong way. I'd rather have a more cohesive group.

Per Rucker twitter.....he apparently "rubbed some people the wrong way" and "they went another direction".

Never even heard of Sandlin so importance cannot be that pivotal. Marketing guys are a dime a dozen folks. For the record, some slogan and sending 102 letters to a recruit is not branding. Success on the field is branding, which is why Butch keeps harping on the winningest since '27 and the like.
