According to TOS JR Sandlin is no longer the Director of Recruiting for football

That position doesn't rub recruits. He was the person who penciled in the appointments for the masseuses in that analogy.

Just short sighted opinion. He came from Bama where they are a machine in recruiting if you dont think these type of guys are important then you are just wrong

Never even heard of Sandlin so importance cannot be that pivotal. Marketing guys are a dime a dozen folks. For the record, some slogan and sending 102 letters to a recruit is not branding. Success on the field is branding, which is why Butch keeps harping on the winningest since '27 and the like.

It's part if branding. Those were just the noticeable examples that I could give. And branding isn't just on the field, although that's the strongest attribute. What's the personality of the program, what the players and coaches do on and off the field, the messages it sends to the external environment, and the alumni. That's all part of the Tennessee brand

Oh CRAP! I can't read all of these pages, but all of these 2014 recruits came here because of Sandlin...

That is just stupid if true. He obviously was rubbing the recruits the right way and that is all that really matters.

No offense, but neither you nor I know enough about this to really have an opinion either way. Seriously doubt any recruit came here in any way shape, form or fashion because of JR Sandlin. Maybe he did something internally that just couldn't be tolerated. Who knows? We certainly don't.

Sunseri came from bama, too.

I didn't say the position wasn't important, but the analogy that he had anything to do with regards to contact with the recruits other than scheduling is incorrect. I am positive this position is extremely critical for a high energy coaching staff, but if he didn't fit then we should be glad we have a coach who will make changes.

I agree with most of this but some slogan cannot convey many of the items listed. These things are proven by actions not words. The marketing plans were never reinforced as much when the UT brand of winning sold itself.

My guess is the average age of the posters in here is around 10 or 11. Every conversation doesn't need to be turned into a joke.

Am I the only one who thinks this statement is hilarious coming from someone with a Batman avatar?

Not that there's anything wrong with that, I have a lot of friends who like Batman. :whistling:

I hope this isn't true or we're bringing in someone just as good or better. While the coaches do the bulk of the recruiting, guys like Sandlin take care of the foundational things, like the online presence and overall strategy.

Take a look at his twitter and see the different media tools he's used in the past few months. It's really great stuff that I don't think we've had before.
