I am really hoping that Pearl can do the things he needs to get Adonis Thomas.

This may include:
1. Crushing Memphis on the court this year
2. Advancing in the tournament again
and possibly 3. Getting someone to the NBA off a huge year this year.

Melrose's Adonis Thomas shines in AAU play

He is recruiting him hard, but so is Pastner. I like alot of things about Josh, but I hope he falls flat on his face this season so we can get Adonis in a TN uniform.

It was also funny to see Pearl revel a bit in the fact that Wes cannot send Calipari as many players now that he is an agent.

Would be a great get, but there are others that could pick up that shortfall. Great guards are simply a must and I want them.

I'd say he's a Memphis lean at this point. Hopefully that will change....

I just still don't understand what the draw is to Mempiss. :dunno: I mean, it's a crap-hole town with a University that has sub-par facilities to some of it's local high-schools, it plays in a sub-par conference (so winning as much as Mempiss has i the past in the CUSA is overrated), and they just got a young-buck head coach last year that had significant issues with winning consistently. I know those may likely stem from the NCAA penalties, but still, Mempiss? I'd rather be in orange. But then again, I'm biased. :hi:

You're right about that. I lived in Jackson my first 22 years not too far away from Memphis. It was a crap-hole then too.

I want to see Adonis lace it up for the orange and white too, but dissing Memphis's facilities? How many college teams do you know that play every home game in a 3 year old top-notch NBA arena? I've seen around 5-6 games at the Forum (including last year's Vols v Tigers) and it's easily the nicest place I've ever seen a sporting event.

He may have been referring to Memphis's on-campus facilities. The Forum is only where they play their games.

The Finch Center is top notch. Anyone ripping Memphis' facilities simply doesn't have the slightest idea what the Hell they are talking about.

I like the Pratt better, but the Finch is legit for sure.

I do not think we have much of a chance at landing Thomas. Memphis will be tough to beat, but Florida and UNC are the very legitimate threats to land him.

That's a pretty big blow, is it not? What does that leave them with in terms of a starting lineup/bench?

It is no doubt a huge blow to them, but they have enough other talent coming in around them to immediately put them back in the top 20. Barton would have made them immediate final 4 contenders IMO.

The word is that his having attended four (yes, I said 4) different highschools and perhaps not having graduated in 4 years (he graduated in August, not June), has resulted in a flagging from the clearinghouse. What isn't known yet is whether this is a temporary setback or then premature end to his college career.

Ask anybody in Memphis if they would rather live in Jackson...

Absolutely not. Memphis gets a really bad rep (some of it is deserved), but I like it. Jackson just sucks IMO.

Memphis has premier athletes, simply put. Pearl would be crazy not to try to haul kids out of Memphis on a consistent basis.

I don't think Thomas is a Memphis lean, however. But in UM's defense, they have a great young coach who learned from the best of recruiters, Calipari. He has a stockpike of talent in his backyard.

I'll take a guess at this one:

1. 3 Final Fours/2 NC game appearances.
2. Play home games in world class NBA arena - not a glorified barn.
3. Finch practice facility on par with other elite programs. With your high school comment, you obviously have never set foot in the Finch.
4. Rockstar status in an urban city, not a racist backwater town.
5. Play for a school whose former players are Dream Team members, Rookies of the Year, and lottery picks. UT fans get to watch their former stars play in the D-League, Summer League, and Turkey.
6. CUSA sucks. Petition the SEC to let Memphis in. Memphis beat exactly 0 CUSA teams in the NCAA tournaments from 2005-2009. Also had Top 20 RPIs 2007-2009.

Pastner had trouble winning consistently because he took over a gutted program that had 3 players last spring. He ended up having 3 legit D-1 players on the roster. The rest were borderline role players.

The fact that he was able to fill out a roster and win 20+ games was an incredible feat. His first team played hard every game and improved.

With all that rolling, the San Francisco Dons should be killing it.

Actually i'm pretty that there is just record of 2 final 4's and 1 championship game.

Yeah, and a major crime rate second only to Detroit Mi. I wouldn't let a kid of mine visit Mempiss, much less live there long enough to play basketball for them. Unfortunately there are parents out there who don't care enough about their children to keep them away from there:fool:
