Will Doofus be in Athens for the honoring of his father at half time? That's would be awesome to bring down the dogs with him in attendance and ruin their day.

When I used to drive from Knoxville from Athens a ton (gotta love long distance relationships :thud:), I used to take 40e to US23 to US441 and even though it was mostly highways, it was always quicker than taking the Interstate to ATL and then shooting over to Athens. It is also a really pretty drive, especially around this time of year.

From Knoxville, you can get on 441 in downtown, take it through Gatlinburg, over the mountains and stay on it all the way until you get to Athens.

Every time I go that way,I end up doing 35 behind an RV in the national park and swear I'm never doing it again.

Sounds like a lot of you have had good experiences at LSU. Just curious, which years did you guys go? Maybe things have changed, maybe my experience was an anomaly. I went in 2005 and I encountered hundreds of incredibly rude people. I don't think I met a single nice, hospitable, or just plain decent human being while I was there.

Just to compare, I went to the Cotton Bowl later that year and didn't meet any rude Texas A&M fans. Went to Athens the year before that and had a total of 3 people say something rude to me. Baton Rogue in 2005 was by far the worst away game experience I've ever had.

I went to Athens in 1981. The year before , I sat in Neyland and watched us go out ahead 15-0 over Georgia, if my memory serves. Then Herschel Walker came in at the half, rolled over Bill Bates like he was a bowling pin, and scored the last 16 points to win 16-15.

So, I go to Athens the next year with high hopes. After I suffered through a 44-0 trashing, and a long drive back home, I decided that Athens was not the best place for me.

Remember that Athens is 100% committed to taking ALL of your visiting money. There is no free parking, they WILL arrest underage drinkers and jaywalkers and it is expensive. This is the time of the year when they make their money for the rest of the year.

Last year, Athens Clarke County arrested over 3,400 people on their 8 home games, an average of almost 500 a weekend. Don't be one of them. COPS SUCK in CLARKE COUNTY.

There is free parking. Park on east campus.

I plan on leaving about 5 or 530 Saturday morning from Chattanooga. Iphone map says it takes 3 hours and 15 minutes to get there. That early enough?

I would leave earlier. Traffic will suck. Think about it, most will be there by 9am or so to tailgate. I drove to Athens on monday. Take 85 to commerce ga & go south on commerce rd straight into athens. You will get barked at but its an awesome campus so plan to walk a lot. Its hilly & once we win you can howl at daddys dawgs!

2005 is a bad gauge, IMHO. That was the first game after Katrina. Fats Domino was staying with JaMarcus Russell for Pete's sake. Folks had a lot unreasonably invested in the Tigers that game.

I went in 2000 with some LSU friends from law school and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Had the same group of friends come to Knoxville in 2006, and damn if they didn't win the game AND the party.

I went in 2008. 16 of us took an 8 person RV down there and parked it in an abandoned Chinese restaurant parking lot (oh college). Dudes were sleeping on the keg, the roof, the ground outside...quite an adventure. However, UGA fans suck. You will get barked at, and we even had several throw peaches in our general direction en route to the stadium. The females are definitely nice to look at, which makes up in large part for the awful conduct of the male fans. The tailgating is very different than at UT, as it's all contained within a quad on campus. Pretty best experience overall sans the peaches.

Leaving from Atlanta at 6:30...I am convinced the traffic will be a nightmare, but husband is sure "we'll be fine". I'm going to need a friendly tailgate to get away from all the red and black I'll be surrounded by.
