Aeration and seeding time.

Had the lawn aerated and seeded today. It was a PERFECT day today, I thoroughly enjoyed the cooler weather and nice breeze. I dropped some extra dense shade seed in some of the spots of the lawn that weren't getting much light. I also put down the starter fertilizer front and back as well. Had to set up the sprinklers to try and cover the whole front and back. I was at Lowes and found a couple of these:

It's surprisingly a much better design and gives more even coverage than the cheaper single spike sprinklers. http://sales69.net/images/Genco-01082013HomeDepot/10021459-2.jpg

Any sprinklers out there that you guys have had luck with?
I'd really like to put in a sprinkler system.

sprinkler systems are really nice, but can be expensive...
I've actually got a guy coming today, to look at adding a zone, to my system

Irrigation as a whole can be expensive if you pay to have it done. Biggest expense is the back flow preventer. Other than that its really not that bad. A zone can generally be added or installed for Usaully 200 bucks.
(Granted there are a lot of variables to this)

When is the best time to aerate, seed, and fertilize? Last year was my first year doing this, and it turned out ok. I sprayed weed and feed as well. I haven't seen one clover this year, but I've had my neighbors crab grass, and strange weeds make it's way into my yard. I used rebel tall fescue seed, and sprayed vigaro weed and feed. I will probably add some top soil this year as well in some places.

I know the fall is a good time to do it...I just didn't know if it had to be a certain temperature outside.

Do it when night tempeartures get between 50 and 65..You need t aerate first, then put the seed down and water 10 to 15 minutes a day after that

This.

Easy on the fertilizer after you seed it or you can burn the grass up. I would just water as suggested here and fertilize about a month after the grass is established.

This! I've had great results just putting down starter fertilizer when seeding. I try and give as much time as possible between sewing and putting down weed control.

I used an aerator last year. The guy at the rental place also suggested an over seeder. Should I try the over seeder, or stick with aerator?

This is a new one on me. I wonder if Obsessed has a take on overseeders.

I've never used one but I know the Scott's guys just aerate and then use a drop spreader for the seed.

Over seeder?? Lol.
(He's just trying to rent you something else)

Any fertilizer spreader will work. Adjust the settings to the desired pounds per square foot and let her rip.

Like vol in ar said. Do both.

What type of grass is it anyway?

What would be the cost of an in ground sprinkler system for a smaller yard, say between 4500 to 5500 square feet? Rough estimate?

Lots of variables but I would think between 2400-3000 bucks if installed professionally.

Seems like a lot up front but honestly that's not bad for the money it'd save you in seed and product over time.
