After Conference Championship Games Today!

1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Bama
4. Georgia

Bama now has the best win of the year, over #1, twice defending national champions, winning the best league.

The case is for #4 between UGA, Texas, OSU, and FSU. I don't see UGA being left out of that spot.
Except that out of all the teams you just mentioned, one of them has the same record as and beat the team you have just listed as #3 in your rankings by two scores, as the away team. How would that not put them over Georgia?

No SEC team in CFP hurts Vol bowl position.
Not really. It moves up teams that were already going to be in New Years 6 bowl spot position.

If anything, upsets like “Iowa over Michigan” or “Oklahoma State over Texas” (which didn’t happen) would hurt the Vols bowl position, as those would take away 2 more New Years 6 spots, which would have pushed Missouri out of the New Years 6 bowls and into the Citrus Bowl, which in turn would have pushed #12 Ole Miss back into the same bowl level Tennessee is currently in.

It most likely wouldn’t be 2 teams in the playoffs without having needed a full slate of upsets across the board in the other conference championship games (which hasn’t happened).

It also wouldn’t be more SEC Bowl spots in this year’s case, as it would have meant the teams pulling the upsets (Iowa, Oklahoma State) would have also gotten New Years 6 bowl spots, pushing back Missouri out of the New Years 6 bowls (while still keeping Ole Miss and LSU on the outside), pushing pretty much everyone else down.
Right now its looking like if FSU wins they get in and if they lose its between Texas and Georgia with UGA the controversial darkhorse. But these 2 'primetime' games are horrible. Michigan looks terrible and FSU is looking like if they do make it whoever they play in the playoffs gets an unfair advantage. They have nothing at QB.

Michigan
Washington
Bama
FSU/Texas/UGA

I think UGA is the best of those other teams left over and the fact they lost by 3 might be their saving grace. Georgia I think will get boned by SOS which IMHO is way lower than it should be. OSU's SOS being 6 is insane....

UGA is out
As well they should be… it was crazy two years ago when they still got to play after losing to Alabama in the SEC championship game.

Let’s go back in time and allow TN to still play for the National Championship after losing to LSU in the SEC title game.

It matters when you lose and also your strength of schedule.

Bama (ugh)
Washington
Michigan
Texas

If FSU wins tonight, it will be hard for the playoff committee to leave a 13-0 Power 5 team out though. Of course, they aren't the same team without Jordan.

Texas should get the nod over Bama in that case. They put on a show for the committee today.
That's also true for the Chicago Bulls.

I honestly believe an expanded playoff is the only way to fix this. A couple of points to note:
1. College football is now 100% driven by profits, profits, profits. We’ve known this for a while but now with the development of these “super conferences”, politics is showing its ugly face more and more and ruining the game at this level.
2. I believe that Sankey thought he could get 2 SEC teams in the CFB Playoffs, again. Meaning double the payout for the conference and putting yet another feather in his cap. If he gets 0 teams in the CFB Playoffs and causes all SEC teams to get bowl invites with lower payouts, he needs to go. Now, I am a UT fan through and through, and the SEC is the most talented and competitive conference in CFB. I think UGA and Bama would beat UW, UM, & FSU. I think UGA and current Bama would beat UTjr. But, it’s hard to put Bama ahead of UTjr due to head to head.
3. The Big 10 isn’t going to let Iowa beat UM. Case in point, that “fumble” by the Iowa qb at the goal line was no fumble. If UM doesn’t get into the CFB Playoffs, it will cost the Big 10 millions.

Thank goodness this is the last year of this 4 team playoff crap.

So with Michigan being up 3 scores in the 4th, safe to say that game is settled.

Meaning UGA, Alabama, Missouri are all in at least New Year’s 6 level bowls. Likewise, that puts Ole Miss in the Citrus Bowl.

Hard to see such greatness in the #2 Wolverines with 20 points with a score off special teams and a questionable takeaway. None of these 4 in the late games look top 4.

Texas won their conference though and FSU might as well. Surely they wouldn’t put Georgia over a major conference winner with the same record?
TCU lost to Kansas State last year in the CCG and didn't drop.

I just don't see #1, 2x defending national champs being bounced for losing by 3 to Alabama.

Nor do I see Texas jumping 3+ spots for beating a team today that lost to South Alabama by 4 touchdowns at home. The entire Texas conversation is predicated on Alabama getting a major bump. But placing UGA and FSU between Bama and Texas prevents any need to discuss their early season head to head.

I’m watching but not enjoying per se. 16 years now since our last SECCG appearance.
I wound up being at a restaurant in downtown Stuart Florida and the SEC game was on right in front of me. Kind of glad Bama won - time for GA to take a rest. But, it turns my stomach upside down that we are not on that stage again.

Georgia and Alabama both deserve to be in the playoff. They are both better than any of the teams vying for a spot.
Texas beat Alabama by two scores at home and won their conference. How can GA get in over Texas?

I think it should be Michigan, Washington, Florida State, Texas.

The opinions heads will put in Bama and Georgia which is absurd.
