After watching South Carolina tonight...

It blows my mind that 7 years in, Spurrier still hasn't found a dropback passer.

He's done in that respect. Or is it some sort of crazy coincidence that has affected him since he left Rex Grossman at Florida?

SC looked like their defense was gassed the whole night and Vandy was exposing it by lining up quickly and going at them. The big plays for Vandy came from busted assignments from SC secondary, imo the game was sloppy from both teams.

Agreed the defense was gassed but the SC offensive line just looked downright awful. The center was blown off the ball several times by a very small d-line. Not sure if we can beat them, but what I saw sure looked encouraging.

Spurrier has changed his philosophy it seems. He likes balance more than fun & gun. Can't blame him. When you have a horse like Lattimore you ride him.

Been saying that every time it has come up in one of the prediction threads. Vandy isn't a very good team and still gave USCe all they wanted. If not for a horrible call, the delusion of USCe probably would have ended tonight.

I was torn watching the game. I've really grown to despise Franklin but it might have been better for UT in a number of ways if USCe had lost.

Vandy played pesky, inspired football last season.........new HC syndrome IMHO. Kinda like a rookie pitcher who's stuff no one has seen yet. Mystique's worn off now and Vandy's Vandy again. They'll still beat someone they're not supposed to this season. Hope it's not us! Don't know how good USCe is. They're usually geeked to play us early. Wish we could have had 'em last night. They've got to get their O going early or they're in trouble. Good luck tonight. I think it'll be interesting.

Shaw is still going to have to stretch the field to contend for the east. Seems to be SC big weakness this year.

Everyone acts like Shaw was being a warrior. If you are crying on the sideline, you better be out for the game.

I would feel the same about any UT player.

Neither team has an o line. Rodges and Shaw are very similar. Shaw is a better runner and Rodgers is a slightly better passer. Shaw has no one to throw to where it looks like Mitchell is Rodgers only target. Lattimore is still beastley and Zac Stacy has no o line, hes a good rb though. Both defenses are active along the lines but SC's was dominant. SC's db's are exploitable. Vandy's were not tested often, but when they were they did well.

Watching Spurrier play Fulmer ball is a little bit ironic. Don't cha think?

The East is Uga's to lose.

If South Carolina is forced to rely on the arm of Shaw, they become VERY beatable. Unless those teams both make significant progress, neither will be in the division race. Good for the Vols!

Wasn't impressed by either team. Lattimore can be stopped, Rodgers isn't that great of a passer, Stacy can be stopped, and Vandy fans are STILL ignorant.

USCjr. does have a good defense, though, specifically front 7.

The announcers and commentators were all selling that he looked 100%. He didn't seem to have the burst to me that he had before the injury. That brace definitely seemed to bother him at times. He grabbed at it a few times.

He was over 100 yards, quietly though.. I saw a lot of 'first game' blues.. Not impressed though with either team.. If we play up to potential, UGA is the team to beat for the East...

Yep. And it has to be a win. UGA gets Auburn and Ole Miss iirc. UT gets Bama and MSU. Our guys have the more likely loss in the West.

And UGA could come out and suck just like USC did last night. Im still not sold on UGA either. In Richts type of offense he has to have a RB. That was their problem a couple years ago.

If that was called, I bet the house vandy wins.

More than likely. None of USCe's WR's showed an ability to consistently get open or make the tough catch. None of their QB's showed anything throwing the ball that made them look like an SEC QB.

I have been saying for awhile that they were going to sink back to the 2nd tier of the SECE this year. Feel even better about that prediction now.

My thought after watching that game is that we need to go to GA 4-0 so we are at least pushing the rankings. Apparently if you are in the top 10 and playing an unranked opponent, you are free to foul with no consequence. I hate Vandi, but that no-call was the worst I've ever seen. South Carolina Pass Interference No Call Against Vanderbilt - YouTube

It was a horrible call for sure. But because of VU's coach and his antics, I give exactly this many ___ sh*t's about the non-call. :)

Both of the teams can probably beat the vols.
Can? Of course. UT "can" beat Bama. Neither of those teams showed anything that impresses and especially on O.
I am still wondering how Vandy's d-line held up so well considering their avg size was 6-3 268 lbs vs SC's O-line of 6-5 308 lbs I would have thought SC would have pounded them more on the ground with a much bigger line.
Honestly? Because USCe's OL isn't very good either. Remember, as badly as UT and Poole struggled to run the ball last year, Poole had 3 100 yard games. Cincy, Buffalo,.... and Vandy. Only against Buffalo and Vandy did he avg over 5 ypc.

So put it in context before you say that USCe looked good running the ball.
