Well when Boise coach Dan Hawkins was winning 12 to 13 games a year and BCS teams were courting him they were saying he's best coach in nation look what he's done at Boise. As we remember he went to Colorado and ran that program into the ground and he is out of coaching now. So the blazed trail from Boise has a sudden thud. They were a Junior college not long ago so the history is short.

Yeah, but Hawkins was winning with Petersen's offense while he was at Boise. And Petersen has had alot more success than Hawkins did.

Dirk Koetter didn't exactly light it up after leaving Boise either. Nowhere near Hawkins bad though.

I'm no Hart apologist, but I'm convinced Hart did all anyone could do to convince Gruden to come to Knoxville. I think the story and rumors got way overblown.

I don't know what happened with the Gruden thing, what was real and what was fantasy, but I am curious how you are completely convinced that Hart did everything he could to convince him. Hart didn't leave Knoxville for weeks after firing Dooley. And when he did, it was to go to Oklahoma and Kentucky (to talk to Gundy and Strong). One would think that if an AD were really trying his hardest to land a coach as big as Gruden, he would at least try to talk to him face to face once. Even according to Hart, all he did was call Gruden's agent and the agent said he wasn't interested. If we take him at his word, then he hardly did much at all to try to convince Gruden to come here.

I don't remember Dan Hawkins winning any BCS bowl games. Peterson is a superior coach in comparison to Hawkins.

I stopped paying attention. No AD and n the country ever tells the whole story of a coaching search.

So you are convinced Hart did everything he could do simply because you don't believe what Hart says? You realize that makes no sense, right?

I think he is just content where he is. Coaching is a carousel profession for the most part, and coaches leaving of their own choice for a so called better job helps to property are that fact. If you have a family, maybe stability is something you might want to consider as a coach. I know I would. I applaud him for his decision to stay put if he is happy where he is.

Why would Gruden want to get back in coaching when he's making a ton of money doing what he's doing? He's still around the game. He still interacts with players, coaches, gm's AND has 0 pressure to perform. He could color commentate a MNF game in his sleep, but he doesn't.

He's got it made!

I lean this way, I don't think Gruden was ever legitimately interested in coming to Knoxville. The rumor mill got spinning out of control.

It's still a stupid remark by Ainge. People accept and decline job offers for a variety of reasons. Calling him a pansy makes Ainge look like a complete meathead.

Ainge needs to be careful throwing any type of darts around with the skeletons he has piled up in his closet.

To be fair, I don't know how accurate or fact-based the story about the son's illness needing to be treated in Boise is. I mean, Boise Idaho is hardly known for its cutting-edge medicine. I've never seen a well documented or detailed account of the story.

for whatever reason he decided now is the time. would have loved to see him in orange, but those days are past.

My guess is that Hart knew that Gruden wasn't interested and as a way to appease the alumni and booster community he placed a phone call to his agent as a courtesy.

Honestly dont see why Ainge gets so much hate. If you have to talk for 4 hours a day youll probably say something stupid every once in a while. For me, its about every five minutes.

Not an Ainge expert so idk but thats just what it seems. I might be missing something I guess

Ainge is kind of odd. He's really good when he talks mechanics and some of the inside stuff. But it all kind of falls apart when he gets outside that realm and he sounds like just some dude talking out his rear end on the radio.
