Ainge or Meachem for Heisman?

Does 60 minutes of football really have people thinking Ainge is a Heisman candidate? Don't get me wrong, I think Ainge can be pretty good, but aren't some people letting their imaginations run a little wild?
yeah, i agree...i don't see some of the SEC defenses we will shortly be playing allowing SO MANY broken tackles...a lot, A LOT of Ainge's passing yards came on big time run after the catch...i'd say at least 150 of the 291 was on YAC.

not that that's a bad thing, don't get me wrong. heisman hype is somehting that should not even enter equation this year.

Two broken tackles? Also, Ainge came out (for all intents and purposes) with 10:00 left in the 3rd Quarter. He was completing passes at over 60%. So, Meachem doesn't break those tackles, Ainge stays in another quarter and a half, and he still throws for around 300 yards.

Also, on your "150 of the 291 was on YAC," what is your point? He threw three passes to WRs where there was no safety over the top. That is what QBs are supposed to do, get the ball to the WR who has the best chance to make a play with it. Maybe, in the future, QB yardage will not include any YAC, to include screen passes (in which their yards thrown would actually be negative.) Heck, maybe for RBs the only yards they should show on the stat sheet should be yards after contact, since until then it is really their OL doing all the work, and for WRs we should only show YAC...

whoa, calm down buddy...just simply pointing out that minus the first play from scrimmage, it wasn't like we were slinigng it down the feild for 30 and 40 yard posts and crossing routes...that's all. those two broken tackles did account for about 120 yards of passing...and again, that's not a bad thing..i agree with you, he did what he was supposed to...

i give Ainge a ton of credit...he DID play great, no question there whatsoever, and he completed several balls that he never sniffed last year...

but heisman like? nope.

people are happy this team looks amazing, ainge has an awesome arm meachem has the size speedand athletic ability to make top wr list i think he could be up their with the calvin johnsons and the dwayne jarrets???? but thats just me
This is the first game that he has done anything to this degree. Last week by his own admission he said he has not lived up to his hype. No way is he in the same league as Johnson and Jarrett.

You must also understand that very few Heisman voters were watching our game. So, they see the yardage (291,) the TDs (4,) the INT (1,) and the QB rating (around 274???) Then they see that it was against Cal, who was #9 and is still a Top 25 team.

Also, I highly doubt that Ainge does not put up huge numbers against AF's secondary. A lot of that will quite possibly be YAC (Swain, Meachem, and Smith can definitely break tackles.) However, with Quinn playing at 3:30 and Troy Smith and Ted Ginn, Jr. playing at 8, the voters will not be watching. They will see the box score.

The first game that voters, across the nation, will be watching Erik Ainge is the Florida game (except for the voters on the left coast who will be consumed with the USC game.) With big numbers against Cal and AF, Ainge should be at least a dark horse in the race by then.

and i'd take the same kind of performance from him in a heartbeat in two weeks....

I'm sure you would.

And like I said, I beg of you, please throw some more of those nice juicy passes over to the sidelines. Pass it all the way over there, across the defense.

Mmmmmm..... Tastes like chicken.

For all the domination Calvin Johnson displayed against ND, he only scored 1 TD. And, GT lost. Consider the fact that might be one of the lousiest secondaries Calvin faces all year (GT has to play VT, Clemson, Miami, and UGA) and one has to consider how great Calvin really is.

I know we made Cal look like a highschool team, however, their defense is pretty solid. Sure, Ainge picked on a freshman, however, with Meach, Swain, and Brett Smith, and Foster and Hardesty in the backfield, there are going to be a lot of situations where our WRs are single covered with no safety over the top.

I think that's what our D will be saying about Chris Leak...hope your offensive line got 10 times better since last season....kid can't run a lick, and if stands there too long....:whistling:

It only tastes like chicken, if you get there in time. If you're a step late with no safety help, it tastes like . . . well . . .

The converse is also true. It only works for you if it gets there a step ahead of our secondary. And our secondary versus Cal's, well, you get the idea.

The O-line is the issue. I have no doubt but that Florida's defense can keep you in check. You'll score some, but not like you did versus Cal. Question is, can our O-line and running game get good enough in two weeks to let Leak and the receivers do their thing? If so, my expectation is that Florida wins. If not, then you win.

That simple.

i think our D may have something to add to that...if our D plays like they did last week, they're going to have get a lot better. quick.

The reason for the passing game to the sidline was because we knew we could do it aginst them, a game plan vs Fla I am sure will be adjusted cut is real good at that.

Our defenisve starters plus D-Mo and Rico Mccoy looked sick Saturday, if they pull one of those vs. Florida, I think we will have the advantage.

It is a "seasonal" award. Right now, he is having the best offensive season in the nation...

Wow. I bleed orange like youbut realUT i think you are looking at Ainge with orange tinted glasses. When the one great game turns into five then I'll be sold. Until then I will remain cautiously optimistic.

Quiet confidence my freind.

Seriously, give him the game ball... Sure i'm all for it. But to call him a Hiesman candidate right now is laughable. I may be jaded, but I don't buy that it's for the best "seasonal" play, it's a popularity contest. And it carries over from one year to the next. Brady Quin has been the most poular since the end of last season and it is his to lose at this point. I invite you to bookmark this post - and dredge it up should I be proven wrong.

You think every Heisman voter in America didn't watch one of he only top 25 matchups in the nation on opening weekend? Not to mention they would all want to see Marshawn Lynch, Heisman candidate extraordinaire, in action. Just about everybody voting for the Heisman saw that game. They were maybe watching Lynch, but they saw Ainge. I still don't see him winning the Heisman.

I think the Heisman voters on the left coast watched the game, that is it. I believe the rest were split between watching Ohio State, West Virginia, Florida, and Penn State. Then they switched over to the Notre Dame game.

Despite the narrow victory... Ainge and Meachem still had nice numbers.

Stats through 2 games:

Ainge: 35-for-47 (74.5%), 624 yds, 7 TD, 2 INT
Meachem: 13 catches, 297 yds, 4 TD

Strong showing in WIN versus Florida... and they're both in the race.

I just hope Ainge keeps playing and improving like he has the last 2 games. Minus the INT, he made great choices.
