Ainge or Meachem for Heisman?

I hope you're right, but really don't think so.
Right now, he's as good as any QB in the country. While I think the heisman is a stretch, he's had a couple of impressive showings so far.

Despite the narrow victory... Ainge and Meachem still had nice numbers.

Stats through 2 games:

Ainge: 35-for-47 (74.5%), 624 yds, 7 TD, 2 INT
Meachem: 13 catches, 297 yds, 4 TD

Strong showing in WIN versus Florida... and they're both in the race.

nice job on that. I think you're right, they should be. But there's one big problem. They play for Tennessee, just ask Manning and Majors why that's a problem.

I think Ainge may have a chance of getting some attention after this Air Force game. There's not any quarterbacks this year putting up ridiculous numbers. BUT... I don't really care if he gets any attention, as long as we keep WINNING!

If Manning had a better senior campaign than junior campaign, then Manning has a Heisman Trophy in his living room right now (probably have a NC Ring too.)

If Ainge continues to play like this all year, then he gets invited to NYC. If he improves next year, he wins the trophy.

Check Archie Griffin's numbers from junior to senior year. He won the Heisman both years, but had a significantly better season his junior year. Jason White had a better season his senior year, but didn't win it. Eli Manning improved from junior to senior and didn't win it. I don't think the junior vs. senior season is taken into account. Was Manning even invited to the Heisman presentation his junior year?

If Ainge can put up these numbers against Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Alabama, he'll be invited. Against Cal, the receivers made him look good, and last night, he made HIMSELF look great.

Manning finished 8th in Heisman voting his junior season. Four other juniors finished ahead of Manning that season. Manning did not get robbed as much as some people like to believe.

I do not understand the Eli Manning comment...he did not even finish amongst the top 10 in votes his junior year and finished 3rd his senior year. Therefore, his improvement seems accounted for.

Archie Griffin could had a better junior season, yet, he was the best player both years. Therefore, that argument also means nothing...unless you were going to give the trophy to Tony Dorsett (as a junior) during Griffin's senior season.

Also, just because Jason White's QB Rating was higher during his senior season (by less than 1 point), does not mean he had a better senior year. He threw 5 less TDs and for 600 less yards during his senior campaign. White was clearly not the QB that Leinart was in 2004.

Ohio State sux. They may win in the Big Ten, but they won't survive their non-conference schedule. Do they paly any SEC teams?

By the end of the year, I think Ainge will win it and I'll tell the country that i told you so!

I feel like I'm going out on a very unsturdy limb to say that Ainge has the possibility of being considered for Heisman. I wouldn't say that Ohio State sucks, because they're a very talented football team. If they went through an entire SEC schedule, however, I do think they would lose a couple of games.

I do not think Ainge will win the Heisman, but I do think he can get his foot in the door this year. He may be able to set himself up for a hyped up, "Erik Ainge for Heisman" senior season.

I agree. OSU probably loses about 3 games if they were in the SEC. Many say that the SEC is overhyped, but there wrong.

(But hey, I'd sure take OSU's offense any day of the week)

Everytime the question comes up, expect to see the same response from me.

Screw the Heistman.

You'll say this until someone from the University of Tennessee wins it. How nice would that be? In the same season...

Univ. of Tennessee- National Champions
Erik Ainge- Heisman Winner

It's a beautiful thing...

I believe they will definitely survive their non-conference schedule. They handled Texas, and their only non-conference opponents they have left are Cincinnatti and Bowling Green.

Michigan should be a decet test of them.

After ND took PSU behind the wood shed, I have a feeling Michigan will be the only test for Ohio St. Looking out, after the first two weeks, I see Ohio St and WVU playing for the National Championship, with an undefeated Notre Dame team playing for "respect" in the post season.

If Notre Dame goes undefeated, the WILL be in the National Championship. Make no mistake about that.

It makes me sick that West Virginia will probably go undefeated because their schedule is SO WEAK!

I don't see anyone being considered a heisman trophy candidate unless they are playing on a team vying for a national championship. Its very hard to be considered otherwise.

You know, I'd much rather have the most dominant defensive and offensive players in the NFL over a number of years than a trophy that really represents team performance at a single point in time, significantly biased by the previous winner's school affiliations.

If Peyton and get some more support around him, he might eventually be that on offense.

Reggie's closed the door already on the other.

I would take Ray Lewis as a better overall defensive player.

Erik Ainge: 93-for-133 (69.9 percent), 1,389 yds (277.8 yds/game), 12 TD, 5 INT (179.91 passer efficiency)

Robert Meachem: 27 catches, 577 yds (115.4 yds/game), 5 TD (21.4 yds/catch)

Yes, this thread is back. We need a big win over Georgia next Saturday... with both Ainge and Meachem doin their thing.
