Ainge's BBB

Ainge told me one time that there was a good chance of Gruden coming here. I thought he was FOS then and I think he's FOS now.

Ha Ha. He did admit that he never thought Gruden would come but was having fun the whole idea. He says this is different. I guess time will tell.

According to Ainge, he's full BBB - Bring Bruce Back.

This whole season his stance has been:
It'd be great to have Bruce back, we all love him, but everything he hears says Jimmy Cheek is dead against it, so it'll never happen. One in a million chance.

But this morning, he said something has changed. Jimmy is now open to the idea.

Not sure what he's heard or what's changed.

This is what I got from Ainges show too. I'm ALL IN to BBB!!! Had season tkts when he was here...will agn if he returns. Hope cheek wakes up!

Ainge is interesting when he's doing "inside the huddle" type stuff and breaking down the action. Outside of that, he comes off as a JV sports talk guy in a small market.

How many programs have re-hired a coach that they previously fired?

How many programs have re-hired a coach that they previously fired for gross misconduct?

How many programs have re-hired a coach that they previously fired for gross misconduct who also received a 3 year show-cause penalty from the NCAA?

Yes we need a new coach, but re-hiring Bruce Pearl would be the definition of desperation and also just bad form.

Not to mention the really bad press we would get which would possible hurt recruiting.

Pearl had his chance to do great things at UT and he screwed it up. We need another coach.

Regardless of it's factual content, this shall fall on deaf ears (or blind eyes in this case).

You do realize that someone else will hire him. So why not us?

Exactly. He has got some meathead in him.

Hire him or not doesn't matter to me. I'm supporting the Vols either way no matter how hard it is to watch. My thing is you see these players get in trouble and get kicked off the team for much worse things in my opinion and just transfer to another school with all the bells and whistles. Automatic second chance. No problems. He's more than paid for his crimes so he deserves a second chance just like anyone else.

He has more credibility than you big boy.

And? That suddenly means anything?

He also has a talk radio show he would like people to listen to, so pumping out that "Hey y'all Bruce might come back" is a sure way to do that. Look how much some of you are already eating it up.

And the next guy (Mizzou/Miami coach) that got caught doing the same thing Pearl did got a whopping five game suspension total. BP was suspended eight games got fired and had a three-year show cause. He's served his time. TBA would be overflowing w/SRO if Pearl came back. CCM isn't getting it done...someone will hire Pearl...may as well be Tennessee!

How do you know it's not credible, and that it's just for ratings?

Doesn't really seem like a huge rating booster story to me.

If we miss the tourney and if there are boosters that want Pearl back, then there will be a lot of heat put on Hart and Cheek. Really, they could not go out and hire a no name coach with Pearl still without a job. They couldn't keep CCM another year and totally destroy the bb program. It will get very interesting.

If Ainge had said "The people I've talked to have said there's no chance Pearl is coming back", then the main reaction here would be "He has no idea what he's talking about"; and I know this because several other Knoxville media people like Wes Rucker have stated this over and over and that's been the main reaction around here.

I'm saying it's not credible because he's given nothing to indicate it's credible, other than he's talked to "someone". I'm not saying he couldn't end up being right, I'm saying based on what he's actually said, the substance is nothing more than glorified rumor.

If they agree to bring him back just get enough fans that love Tennessee basketball to pay his salary. Get one million fans to pay five bucks each. That is five million should pay him and his coaches. I've got my five bucks ready BBB.:)

So Cam Newton can transfer and get another shot. And Nick Marshall can transfer and get another shot. And all the other coaches out there who have done stupid things can get another shot....but not CBP. Let me tell you something....if we don't hire him someone will. And it could be in the SEC. You want him kicking our ass while we spend another 3-4 years trying to figure out how to get out of another crappy situation or do you want him leading our program back to respectability? This country is ALL ABOUT 2nd chances. They should apply to EVERYONE....and that includes CBP.

Someone should bootleg "BBB" t-shirts in Knoxville and students should start chanting "Bring Bruce Back" at every home game. It would turn up some heat....and make a loud statement. Well as loud as 8,000 can be.

No problem, and I actually agree. I just don't agree it should be at Tennessee. Those kids who get kicked off don't transfer back to the original school to receive all the bells and whistles with their second chance. They burnedthat bridge and move on to another locale.

That said, if somehow BP ends up back on the bench for UT, I'll be the loudest cheerleader for Tennessee just the same.
