Air Force vs. Tennessee Game Thread

You guys'll get it together. I think you just underestimated AF is all. They've always been pretty tough.

Naturally, no one will underestimate Florida.

We didn't underestimate them. That triple option was run to perfection. The guy assigned was getting cut blocked every time. The offense didn't get stopped except on Ainge's pick.

I am still in a crouched position trying to catch my breath.
Our offense is wonderful.
Our Defense couldn't stop a cold right now.

But ---- It's FLORIDA WEEK!!!!
So let's enjoy this win over Air Force and let the talk begin.

Did you SEE the game? If not, I think I'd hold the analysis for the people that did.

That was waaay too close. It should have been 38-17 rathar than 31-30. Defense was not good at all. True Air Force ran the option, which UT has always defended poorly. But Tennessee acted like they never could adjust, and didnt know where the ball-carrier was half the time. Offense was great though. Ainge looked terrific, aside from the one interception. As bad as it looked though, I think this will only be a wake up call and will only serve as motivation for the Florida game.

Guys, I will suggest this...tonight's game was the embodiment of the expression "On any given Saturday...". Air Force brought Max Heart to this game, and hats off to them...wow! If they'd won, I wouldn't making any excuses...bring Air Force and Cal into Neyland stadium one afternoon, and Air Force wins. Either way, we're 2 and 0. No championship team avoids a close call. So what if we drop a couple notches in the polls...it's only 2 games into the season...we got time. Congratulate our team for avoiding the Godly efforts of a determined team. Air Force is to be respected, but we won.

I'd like to thank Fisher Deberry for going for two and NOT running the option.

i just don't think you can look at this game as a way to determine the rest of the year... the option when ran like it was tonight (of course this is what i got from the radio), is next to impossible to stop... no one else we play this year runs anything even remotely close to this

...and no one that does, runs it as
efficiently
as Air Force did.

While I think this game isn't indicative of our D, not many championship teams have close calls with mid majors. Still, proud we won, and I don't let our defensive play against Air Force make you worry about our D against Florida. The injuries are more worrisome.

Above all, lets hope Inky is okay.

Exactly right Bill. I also found they weren't calling penalties on AF when they were actually TACKLING defenders. A cut-block is legal... tackling a guy as if he has the ball is not.

Either way, we had it well in hand and Ainge threw a bad pass into coverage. It was his only poor decision of the night, but it nearly cost us the game.
