AJ Johnson's good heart

I'd like to think its at least somewhat genuine... yeah, that's what I'm going to believe.

I agree. I could understand how some might think ego, but when you help others and do good things for people you get this filling of joy and of course you'll be proud of yourself for helping others. But I think this was him just genuinely helping someone in need during the holidays. Good Job AJ.

He may have taken the picture because of the Tennessee hat and the irony of the man offering him his hat. LOL

Either way, a good deed was done now go and pay it forward.
That's what I was thinking. After all, I don't think AJ would be spending what little cash he has on a stranger, he never met...if he had false motives.

Jesus did say it's more blessed to give than to receive. AJ probably felt the deed impacted him more than it did for the individual he helped...and that's why he was sharing it with his friends.

Dude questioning his motives is just a pessimistic, glass-half-empty kind of person.

Hebrews 13:1-2

1 Let brotherly love continue.
2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

I don't think this was AJs motivation just another good side effect is that it will help his draft stock by showing character. IMO

Your incredibly stupid to think that. AJ has always showed compassiion at UT. I had a chance to meet him and Curt at Publix off Northshore and they were nothing but genuine. Great character guys!!!! OH and it wasn't put on twitter.

SEcond thought...your pathetic for thinking this way....deal with! Believe in the good in people....its there....just have to look. LIke you, I know your probably good but when someone looks and searches for the bad in people they are usually covering up their own bad.

I don't post much....but people like your irk me. I know you won't care about my post. But it made me feel better. OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE GOOD IN THIS WORLD. IT WILL HELP YOUR LIFE TREMENDOUSLY!

It's kind of funny that folks want kids that come to UT and represent the university well, be positive role models, stay out of trouble, be a true VFL by caring about the community, etc...

But, when the kids actually do such things, they suddenly have ego problems and are bashed...seems like fans kinda send mixed messages, doesn't it?

Maybe AJ is just trying to be a positive example, use his role on the team to reach out to those less fortunate, or maybe just share a little Christmas with others...all of which reflects positively on our program as a whole.

Either way, I'd much prefer to see our players portrayed in this light, as opposed to in the arrest column, in rehab, or illegal benefits allegations, etc.

So, Merry Christmas To All...

Go Vols!!!

Amen! Glad someone nailed it.

Guys, is it weird that this brought a tear to my eye? That's what this season is all about. So proud to call A.J. a Vol For Life

No man. It's Christmas and seeing our player do something like that is a wonderful thing. Most folks won't give bums the time of day. AJ fed him - that's an act of grace.

Seeing that photo makes me wanna give AJ a big ole bear hug. For being such a fine young man.

If anybody want's to know the reason AJ helped the guy out, take a few seconds and let God tell you the meaning. Matthew 25:40-45.

Last year after the game that Curt Maggitt hurt his knee, me and my 6 year old son ran into him and AJ at a restaurant. My son recognized them and went to ask CM about his knee. They both were very nice to my son and let me take a picture of them with my son. That night both of those young men gained a huge fan in a 6 year old.

No, you perceived it as a brag. That's on you.

AJ didn't search this man out, the man walked up to his car. He offered the man a meal, and the man in turn offered him his hat. A picture with the man in the hat is totally appropriate.

Merry Christmas.

This x1000. Good post Volly. :hi:

When we came out (very late) from the 97 SEC championship game we had a flat tire. A homeless man helped change it. I pulled out a 20; my exwife said, "give him another." You woulda thought he had just won the lottery.

I applaud AJ for being smart and noticing flat-footed MLBs need their senior year to go from slow to faster. :good!:

AJ did a good thing, but I don't think it should be posted online. Lots of bible verses being quoted in here, but good deeds are best done in private. If you want to know why, read Matthew 6:1-4

Matthew 6:1-4 KJV - Take heed that ye do not your alms - Bible Gateway
That may be true in some circumstances...just not this one. I don't see how it applies to sharing with his friends on Twitter. If it were addressed to a broader audience, I could see it. But even though a lot of people are following these athletes, they are really not the folks/audience he is speaking to.

Kids share a LOT of things on Twitter that aren't done to draw attention to themselves. They tweet that they are at a certain restaurant, and comment about how good the food is...or a movie they just watched, etc.

They are just letting their friends know what they are up to. In view of that, his tweet was totally legit. I think he just felt good after helping someone out (who needed it), and wanted to share it with his friends. No harm in that at all.

It does my heart good to see acts of kindness, like that (and it compels me to do likewise, when I can)...so no, that verse does not apply here, whatsoever.
