Not worried one bit....we'll still have a Championship caliber team next year! Akhator would have most certainly helped the cause....can't wallow on this miss....let's see how Holly does with the 2016 class.

When you haven't been in the national title picture in a decade, and fold in the sweet 16 every year, you tend not to get the recruits you used to get. Was that a factor with this prospect? I don't know--but that generally has become an issue for us. We would have never lost recruits to kentucky, south carolina or louisville or others in the past (three programs that have never won squat), but then this is the present--boom.

I think the national title/Final Four argument can work if we had lost her to UConn, ND, South Carolina, and potentially Louisville since they've been several times recently.

But against UK we have a better history, facilities, coach, fan base, and overall program which means playing time and comfort level with an assistant sealed the deal. Sometimes that's just going to happen.

So, what would it take to convince you to pack your belongings and move somewhere that doesn't have internet access?

Just curious...what is the real issue? It can't be because Mitchell is viewed as a better coach than Holly...we beat them all THREE times we played them last year and 1 and 1/2 of those games were without Izzy. And it can't be because KY has a better chance at a NC than us...see their 2nd round NCAA loss to our Elite 8 one. She wanted to go to KY...plain and simple. I could be mean and say I hope she enjoys getting beat by UT for the next 2 years but I won't. I wish her well and move on.

She wanted to go and do what at KY, everything u just said proves there is no reward, the fact that there is 2 coaching staffs, one with very limited resources and the other with all the resources in the world to go out and deliver.

And what do you imagine "the real issue" to be?

Akhator didn't select Tennessee because UK has a coach with a culturally-similar background and she was essentially told she would be a starter there. Tennessee would not/could not guarantee the same.

No one can guarantee that if they do its a lie. You have to go in an earn your PT, the only way this is not true is while on her visit she asked the staff would I have a chance to start and they replied" no we have rising senior that has the position locked"
I think she would have made a strong push for the job

Volbabyvol wrote "I will continue to listen to comments like:
1.Moving on
2.Not a true LV
3.She would not get PT
4.etc

Instead of tackling the real issue here"

I too get sick and tired of hearing the excuses. But what do you think is the real issue?

The LV staff needs to take a pen an pad to Butch Jones office for a recruiting 101 course. It's a relentless job but can be very rewarding in the end!

I'm truly hoping for the best on 2016 post!!

Actually, Tennessee has NEVER guaranteed playing time to a recruit, not even Candace Parker. They come in knowing they will have to earn their time.

Kentucky, however, did tell her she would be in line for a starting spot. They got her to sign, and we will find out if it was a lie or not.

I think Akhator's decision was influenced in large part by the fact that UK has an assistant coach who is also from Africa, which I am sure greatly increased her comfort level with that program. Tennessee has absolutely zero control over that. And if Akhator is looking for significant playing time and a starting spot, she's going to get that far more easily and quickly at UK than at UT, especially during 2015-16.

I have full faith in UT's coaching staff and their recruiting abilities.

I didn't think so this would be suicide.

I'll say whatever I damn well please.

You very well may behind your keyboard its only right lol

No. UT certainly could have used her for depth purposes. She was not, however, a must get.

Now that's it a good productive debate it's been baby steps with you but we are getting there!!

Is English your native language? Based on the above, you are either a non-native speaker or someone missed the boat badly when attempting to educate you.

For your information, if something is posted on a public forum, all are free to comment.

The number one factor for players is the coach. And no criticism to Warlick but she simply isn't Summitt. When Pat was coaching she was the ace of trumps as far as her influence on a player's choice of school, but right now the playing field has flattened for Tenn in recruiting. All schools miss on the majority of their targets.

I think I remember Pat naming Massengale her point guard before she enrolled. I think it came right after Tenn lost in the NCAA's prior to her freshman year.

The answer lies within Sly ask yourself why did we miss out on post the last 2 yrs??

I don't have the answer. And the discussion today, I thought, was regarding this one particular player.

Recruiting techniques, playing time, better fit for her?

"They have a great academic program," Akhator said. "The players will be graduating with me and I feel that's the right place God wants me to be."

Akhator's choice of Kentucky was also due to the school's nursing program, which she is looking forward to taking part in.

I don't think anyone would disagree that Pat's influence regarding potential recruits was more impactful than Holly's, at least at this point in the game. Pat was a legend. Holly has been a head coach for three years. Add to that the fact that Holly is still proving herself (and she's doing a fine job) as the one to take over for said legend. The Tennessee program has been through some major hurdles during the past three years and it's not surprising that recruits have weighed all of those things when making their decisions. That is not as much a reflection of Holly as a person or as a coach, as it is of the circumstances that Holly has found herself in. I think the next few years will show the negative nelly's what a gem they actually have in Holly and her staff.
