Akhator Commits to Kentucky

I think Holly needs to take a look at her assistants. Holly was never known as a great recruiter and supposedly these assistants were hired because they are great recruiters but haven't shown that much and not given Holly the support she needs in that area. The farther they get away from the aura of Pat the more they are going to have to function on their own merits. They missed on Wilson, White, Brown, Mompremier, and now Akhator. They need to do a better job of evaluating who they can get and not waste time on ones they can't get. Also, need to do a better job of evaluating their needs. They needed another post this year. That was a big need and they missed on it.

No way we are suppose to lose a recruit to KY, the difference is night and day. Her only real competition for a starting spot would have been Graves at the 4, Jones is a tweener.

I will continue to listen to comments like:
1.Moving on
2.Not a true LV
3.She would not get PT
4.etc

Instead of tackling the real issue here :whistling:

Mitchell is an elite recruiter. He's consistently pulling in top 10 classes.

Only those present during her visits to the various schools know exactly what was said or implied.

Pretty much my point. How does someone that posts here know that "She also wanted assurance of a starting position" and "the mantra of "You won't play at Tennessee behind Russell, Graves, & Jones" is being told to every single recruit.".

The fact is, Akhator was almost guaranteed NOT to be starting at UT, at least during 2015-16. The same goes for playing time. The fact is, she is more likely to get both at UK than at UT. For a player with only two years of eligibility left, that probably makes a difference. One doesn't have to have it spelled out in so many words to see it. It's obvious.

Well, after Graves, who would slide into that starting power forward position? It's obivous to me that she would move than likely start in 2015-16. If not her than who?

Akhator apparently also liked the fact that one of UK's assistants is also from Africa. All things considered, UK seemed to be the better choice for her.

That seems more likely to be the tipping point.

I just wonder how posters here know that she made starting a condition of going to that school. If they get this information from inside the program, why the heck are they posting it here?

Why are you worried about it? I thought we didn't matter to UConn fans. Please, save us all and go on back to the Boneyard.

I think it's an assumption based on the obvious. She is a very good player with two years of eligibility left. It's doubtful that she demanded a starting position, but I'm sure she wants one. UK can offer her a better shot at a starting position than any of her other three choices based on 2015-16 personnel. Mitchell and his staff would have been crazy not to underscore that fact.

Do you think she wants to go to a big-time program and ride the pine these next two years? I think not.

Ariel was the only PG we would have...of course she would be playing. We didn't have any other options, other than playing out of position.

Well actually, we had a great point guard. Pat named Ariel the starter BEFORE Lauren Avant decided to transfer.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Pat knew Avant would be leaving in the middle of the year. It wasn't a surprise that Avant was transferring when announced.

Why do you think she would ride the pine at Tennessee?

She is a true 6'3" post player of which Tennessee has only two in Russell and Graves. Coming back from foot surgery, I'm sure that Russell's minutes would be no more than 23-25 per game. Graves played 28 mpg last year. I don't consider Jones a post.

She would probably get 20+ mpg. Hardly riding the pine.

Ivyleague has already covered this', doggydad. I'm in no way saying she wouldn't play at all. Maybe "ride the pine" was a poor choice of words on my part and I confused you and others a bit. But as she pointed out, she in all likelihood would have VERY little chance to start at UT, FSU or TX...much better chance at KY. Plus, while most of the world of WBB thinks Russell is gonna take time to "heal," many have indicated that she's 100% and has been for some time. I'm sure it helps some to keep saying Russell is gonna struggle, but perhaps you are incorrect in this assumption. Plus, I think most of us hope the coaches start using Jones in the way she needs to be used...as a 4 and not a 3...as well as begin using Dunbar as a stretch 4 due to her size. The fact remains it really doesn't matter why she chose KY over UT and others....and she wasn't an end all "must have" for us. We have some girls that need to step up...and I think they have the ability to do so.

I don't post on the Boneyard. I haven't posted there since November.

I'm not worried at all.

Care to answer my question? How do you know that this player said that she would only come to a team that promised her a starting position?

Don't worry about it. It's none of your business how I know.

Lol....but it's ok that you blab what I would think would be private information?

Whatever. I thought others might like an answer to that as well. I guess your reputation as an insider is good enough for them.

Like I said, I'm not worried about it.

With Bashaara Graves at the 4 and with Mercedes Russell at the 5 she would not start, but could get 25 to 30 Minutes this year and would be a starter next year as a Lady Vol..

I think people are taking things out of context. I don't know if she ask any of the four coaches if she would start if she came to their program. I think Kentucky pitch the idea of why go to Tennessee when you will not start and will have to play behind Russell, Graves and possibly Jones who will probably be moved to the PF position of which I think she played in high school. UK had a greater need and let her know that they had more available minutes at the post position then Tennessee. UK probably told her that she has a greater chance starting there than Tennessee. I don't think he promised her a starting position and I'm sure she asked every team about playing time, but I don't know about starting.

She still wasn't guaranteed a starting position after Graves graduated especially if Tennessee signs one of the big three in Cox, Holmes or McCoy. Now we will be able to pitch the same logic Kentucky used with Graves graduating and the PF position will be wide open. I'm hoping that this can some how get Cox or McCoy to give Tennessee a hard look. I think both are expected to take official visits.

Forget about Holmes, she isn't coming to Tennessee and likely will not visit.
