'20 AL ATH Damarcus "Dee" Beckwith (Tennessee signee)

Why are people high on this guy film looks meh and I believe his composite ranking has gone down? Never thought this kid was all that great but would like to know why some thing he is 'elite'.
He's 6'4, maybe even 6'5 235 lbs and runs a legit 4.5. He's a weight room freak, has a 34+ inch vertical and is generally the most physical player on the field. During HS football offseasons he has always played basketball and he's never really just played the WR position only. He's got a great personality, great competitive attitude and he's always been a winner. His HS plays in a tough HS district and he's been the best player on the field 99% of the time the last 2 years. We don't have many athletes like him currently on the roster and if he picks the playbook up early he'll be a 1st year contributor wherever he goes I feel. I hope we get him, I think he'll be a star in Knoxville!

Charlie Ward FSU, Tony Gonzalez Cal, Terrell Owens UT-C, Donovan McNabb Syr, Julius Peppers UNC, Ronald Curry UNC, Antwaan Randle-El Ind, Justin Gage Missouri, Nate Robinson Wash., Martellus Bennett aTm, Jimmy Graham Miami, Julius Thomas Port. St, Bruce Ellington USCe and Austin Seferian-Jenkins Wash. all played football and basketball in college.

Well, there’s 14 out of how many tens of thousands since Charlie Ward played at FSU? Not 100% impossible, just 99.9% unlikely.

No reason he can't be a football star and a basketball contributor
More than any time previous it is almost impossible for a kid to play two sports unless one of them is a track event.

Essentially what a kid has to do to play two sports amounts to two full time jobs while taking 6-9 college credits on the side. Can it be done? Maybe. But it would take an athlete that essentially doesn't need to be in a focused S&C program and who is an extraordinary student.

Actually, there are a lot of reasons. If he comes here, my guess is he’ll very quickly become a single sport football player, like 99.9% of the athletes who wanna play 2 sports in college eventually do.

Yeah, multisport athletes are rare, but we have two of the best in our history.... Ron Widby combined these two sports and threw in Golf I think it was, and a guy named Hollaway did ok too..... Never count on it, but never say never..... I would certainly welcome him to campus and let him and the football and basketball staffs work it out.

Don't forget 2 TN QBs that excelled even more at Baseball. Alan Cockrell and Todd Helton.

Nah.... the student part will be fine with all the help he will be given..... the hard part is giving up essentially all of his free time to play 2 sports.

From that same era Randy Wallace and Rodney Woods did it.

Even that was a different era of college football. Also there are less inherent conflicts between baseball and football when it comes to physical development. A guy could participate in S&C and play baseball unless they were a pitcher.
