i think some of y'all are just way to in the 'he is this...' or 'he isn't that...' absolutes.
the reality is that coaches develop along in their career, and hopefully get better at all parts of the job.
Nick Saban didn't do what he has done at Michigan St, did he? hell, he didn't really do it at LSU. he certainly didn't do it in the NFL. but as we all now know, 16 years after all that, he's the greatest coach in college football history. so, he got better....and part of the reason why is he got to Bama at the right time--for him and Bama.... and he was the right guy....even though they really wanted Rich Rodriguez first. man i wish he would have taken that job....
anyway, point is.....i think CJH is a good recruiter. just listen to the prospects talk about him. i think he has some 'behind closed doors' swagger, and is ultra competitive. i think him being here aligned with who our university and athletic department leadership are, the coaches he has around him, and the type of player he likes to be on his teams, has just been a good mixture. add two very good years on the field, and joila! very very rarely is it because of one or two things that determine success (or failure), it's usually a combination of things. and for the first time, in a very long time, at Tennessee, we have all of that, on the success side of the equation.
