Why does it bother people if a kid is taking depth into consideration when choosing a school? I get that we want the best players in the country, but these kids have things that they want as well. If early playing time is a major priority, then kids are going to look at depth charts. It doesn't mean that they're not willing to compete. There's four young 4 stars at his position on campus already and the coaches plan on taking two more this class. If he is concerned about our depth at LEO, it must mean he wants an easy route to playing time. If that is the case, let him go wherever he want to go. I like players who are willing to fight for playing time.
I get wanting the best players to come to UT. What I don't get is ragging on a top recruit for looking at depth charts. It doesn't mean that they're afraid of competition. If early playing time is a top priority, he would have four young 4 stars from the two previous classes already on campus, and the staff plans on taking 2 in this class at that position. The goal is to be able to rotate fresh players without any drop off. Even so, only 3 will get major snaps at the LEO position barring injuries. Some kids won't be keen on that idea. They'll want to be featured within the first two years on campus. I like that our coaches are transparent about their intentions. If this five star guy is scared of our depth that tells me a few things.
1. He may be a pansy, scared of competition.
2. He saw our guys and thought "Tennessee has some freaks. I'll never see the field."
3. A bit of a side note but he's in Birmingham and it doesn't seem like Alabama nor Auburn are pushing hard
We only want players with that dawg in them. He don't fit. You got to have players with the sack size of Merklinger who say I don't care if the number one quarterback is going there. I want to go there to and challenge him to try to beat him. This guy ain't it.
