'24 AL EDGE Jordan Ross (Tennessee)

A kid who is presumably chasing NIL, who could be a bust, and seems wishy-washy is not in need. We got a guy like Pearce who blew up at the end of the year. If we don't get him, we'll be fine. RG hasn't let me down yet.

Williams Nwerni chased NIL, had multiple leaders at different times, and might be a bust. We’d take him in a heart beat.

Welcome to modern recruiting.

We need to stack as many blue chip pass rushers until we’ve got a room full of dudes.

certainly doesnt look like it will go down like that.

I agree we need more dudes but Ross doesn't have to be that guy. That's why he's not a need to me. Top kids from Alabama stay in state. There is a reason those schools aren't pushing for him.

Kirby is a recruiter and a motivator. If someone has equal or better talent then he folds.
And there lies the issue… who has equal or better talent? lol. Ohio State and Bama. Then it becomes a one off situation where they only need a win to win the entire thing

Kirby ain’t the best X and O guy but boy does he know how to motivate his team… he brainwashes them into believing ppl doubt them lol and almost every big game they have had in the past 3 seasons they come out ready to play… another thing we have to find a way to do is match the physicality they play with on all 3 levels Kirby still let’s his guys tackle to the ground 1 day a week during the season and it’s risky but does show up on game day because they are assignment sound and rarely miss tackles… I think we have a really good shot in neyland but we will have to take it from a physical stand point it won’t be easy. Another advantage they have this season particularly is they can prepare for us a little bit all season without much fear of losing because we seem to be their only tough game this season so they will be the most prepped team for our offense we see all year once again… I’m very excited for that one I know neyland might break a record if we have 1 or fewer losses going into that game.

I wanna see our DB’s start grabbing, hugging, tugging, and tackling opposing receivers the way Georgia’s do. Establish from the get go that this is how we’re going to play and dare the refs to throw a flag (and adjust if it comes to that).

I think the issue with Ross isn't that he's wishy washy or anything negative, per se. Just that he might be putting a 5 star NIL value on himself and I'm no scout, but I've read more than once that while he's very good, he's not as good as his current ranking suggests. Still a very good player though and at a position of need for us.

Is he the end all be all? No, but we're running out of options.

We pursued the following edge guys:

Rushing (chose Arizona over us)
Dylan Stewart (never seemed to get much traction here, ultimately chose uscjr)
Jamonta Waller (another player reportedly not as good as his ranking, chose Florida)
Kameryn Fountain (we led forever then he out of the blue chose USC)
Brian Robinson (never gained much traction here despite visiting here, supposedly between UK and UM)

I may be forgetting a name but as it stands, Ross and Okoye are the only two uncommitted edge guys were tightly in on. Ideally you'd want to take at least two a cycle, and we currently don't have any true edge guys in the class.

Now, I do think the possibility of flipping Fountain is out there. USC sounds good, but that Big10 schedule/travel seems weird and I'm sure California will seem farther and farther away the closer signing day comes. Staff still communicates with the family, per reports.

The possibility of Echols playing edge is out there too, but it feels like his heart is set on TE and to be fair we have a need there as well.

Ultimately if you want to add two, then our best bets are to land two out of three between Okoye, Ross, and Fountain. Thus, why I feel like he is a huge need for us.

Obviously more names may pop up as the season goes along, but thats the current snapshot as I see it.

You know what good sir. I see your opinion and respect it. That's a great comprehensive list. I see where you are coming from and why Ross is considered a need. I will concede My original premise and say that yes he is in need. I respect anyone who puts that much effort into a breakdown. Well done good sir

You mean you aren't going to argue ceaselessly for hours or even days on end about the smallest detail that you might slightly disagree on?

Where are our big money donors? Why can’t they pony up like these other schools? What’s stopping them? You say NIL won’t ever be a problem but yet we get out bid.

Hey watch out LOL, you are going against the Volnatioin narrative here, remember apparently we have plenty of money but Heup and company won't "overpay" for anyone unlike other schools and that is the only reason we aren't getting these kids we keep missing on at the very end ;)

we need players.

But remember we "won't overpay for anyone" so apparently we are going to let the chips fall where they may and lose kids and just be happy with who we get according to the narrative on here lately... IMO, Heup may be treading on a slippery slope because if we start slipping or going backwards because of lack of talent, he won't have any excuses because apparently he is choosing to not overpay and banking on competing with GA and AL year in and year out with a less talented roster... Wonder how long that will last?

Prob long enough for the next will anderson or whatever his name is, to breach our Tackle/Guard/Center glut

You're one of the worst posters on here. Exactly like bruin....keep on beating that dead horse. Do everyone a favor and reduce your postings by 85%.

Ohio state had worse(not much worse) talent and lost with a bad field goal. Good example.

Both rosters were nearly identical… 2nd and 3rd in the nation. Sure it’s a good example. State should’ve won absolutely but that’s the entire point. One off game situations. Only 2 teams have near the talent or better

It is like you either don't even read or understand these ideas. You fixate on individual players and somehow believe they are so uniquely talented and so sure to be successful that failure to sign them will result in the collapse of the program.

Yours is just a really, really bad, closed minded, and irrational way of thinking. There are talented guys out there. Somewhere there are 3* kids who the recruiting sites haven't noticed with just as much potential as all of these guys you're wringing your hands over. So yeah, it is abjectly stupid to over pay when you can find others with some patience or work the portal to get someone with proven talent.
