'24 AL EDGE Jordan Ross (Tennessee)

A couple of the players here at GW Carver that are semi friends with him said he wants to leave the state and Birmingham all together. Pretty sure I saw someone else already state that so sorry if it’s a repost lol
don’t blame him
I moved down here did my wife to open her practice and I miss Murfreesboro so much haha

Because Heupel is a better coach especially on gameday. There's also the matter of discipline. UT has been pretty quiet. Smart's guys remind me of Fulmer's during his decline. Lack of discipline within the program will have an impact on the field at some point.

And again, you give WAY too much credence to the journalists who take their cues largely from who Smart recruits. Saying Smart's class will be top 3 is a self fulfilling prophecy. He is signing very good talent... but they also get a bump simply because he makes them a priority. If Heupel keeps proving he can find talent and have it show out on the field then he'll get more credibility.

But considering the rankings... Heupel has already shown he can do more with less. According to 247's composite which does have some merit since it partially averages out the errors made in rating individual players, Heupel's Vols had the 19th most talent in the country last year. He beat... #1, #5, #8, and #14. He lost on the road vs the eventual national champion UGA in a sloppy game. I don't have the faith in those rankings that you do... but especially you would have to give Heupel a ton of credit for doing that. Saban is widely regarded as one of the top coaches of all time. The media you seem to trust so much think Kelly is great. Dabo has some NC rings. And UF... has just been hard for UT to beat regardless of who had the better team.

Heupel could eventually fail because he's not getting enough talent. But if UGA is a legit 1-3 and UT is a legit 10ish... then Heupel will do just fine with Kirby.

I love Heupel but I honestly don’t see how you can say he is a better coach than Smart. I mean how can you say definitively that Heupel is better on game day?

Because of what he's done against teams with more talent. I think Smart is an elite recruiter. I don't get it... but players believe him. I think he and his staff develop players well. From there I think he simply overwhelms opponents by being talented and fundamentally sound. Nothing wrong with that. It works. But I don't think he's a "brilliant" X's and O's guy. I think Heupel is.

The proof I would point to is in the post above. He has beaten very good and even elite coaches who had more talent on the field. Smart is beating everyone... but he isn't facing opponents with more talent much less the disparity there was between UT and Bama.

Clock management I think Heupel is slightly better, motivational wise it’s hard to counter what Smart has with that crew. Great thing about all of this is they’re both mid-late 40’s and there will be plenty of time to settle the discussion

Kirby hasn’t had to really dig deep for an OC…. Chaney was good not great like Monken. Coley was a disaster that one 2019 season. We’ll see if the dominance keeps going or will they take a step back to 11-3, 12-2 again

What will the worry warts do when we land this guy? Will they still just say

"Well we still aren't recruiting like UGA and Bama!"

"We must recruit better than anyone in the country in year 3 after 15 years in football hell!"
I’ve decided that some just want to be miserable and worry about every bad thing that could happen. I am going to try my best to not attempt to rescue them.

I'll be happy to land him, but we still need interior DL for this class. Does that classify me as a worry wart? I'm all about filling our needs. Ross will check the Edge position off, though we'll probably pursue at least one more. But the interior DL still needs to be addressed. Doesn't matter where we finish in recruiting rankings. At least not yet. Right now, the only concern is plugging the needs with capable players and getting the most out of them. Success will bring better classes.

But we still need interior DL. I want some beasts.

Athletic tools and position. High-value position who has great athletic tools in what is probably a weaker overall class. Not going to act like I've watched everyone being so busy lately but just the sense I get
you just confirmed what i'd thought. they must like this 25 class, is stronger in state.

get one more to go with nasir, and a portaler.

Trying to flip Amaris Williams from Florida. Could be up on a gameday visit. Haven't talked to him but you have to wonder what he thinks if Florida misses a bowl game. In terms of better in-state talent, 2025 might be better at the top but 2024 was deep with P5 kids.
