Why would a kid from Alabama want to go to MSU? East Lansing is a dump. The armpit of the upper Midwest

I live an hour away. Total s*** hole. The best restaurant is a pub that serves decent bar food and it isn’t local, there’s plenty of them in Metro Detroit. That place sucks.

I live 15 minutes away from Ann Arbor, on the other hand, and it is undeniably an awesome college town. Reminds me a lot of Knoxville, actually.

...if Knoxville were overcast, bone chilling, and covered in dirty snow for several months a year.

Lol, true. December-March sucks. But Ann Arbor is a vibrant college town with a ton of great restaurants to try and things to do. Pretty close in population size, too. That’s the similarity I was thinking of. The weather is very nice during football season besides late November. 75 and sunny or sweater weather for the vast majority of it. I’m personally not a fan of hotter places.

That’s my only problem with Knoxville. It can just get scorching hot in the dog days of summer and into the fall. I was in the band at UT and when we had practice in August-mid-October, jeez, it was brutal. We practiced on that turf intramural field by the TREC and it SUCKED. Band camp was 7-8PM for 10 days. I’m pretty pale, too, so I would just get cooked like a salmon. Not only would those turf pellets get all in my shoes, so it was unpleasant to march, they were black so they made the field seem 10 degrees hotter. There was a day my freshman year where it poured rain all day and we were so happy to get soaking wet and to have cloudy skies because it had been almost 100 degrees the past couple days.

Did somebody hold you at gun point and make you be in the band? You kinda just described life
