‘23 AL QB Christopher Vizzina (Clemson commit)

I’m not too worried about a QB in ‘23…..
Got Jackson this year and find a guy in the portal for ‘23 season.
I’d put the emphasis on a ‘24 kid……just me.
its good for cruiting honestly not impressed with '23 class. We need depth but thats what the portal is fur.

This ‘23 QB class that we’re recruiting is far and away better than Jackson. If we end up with Nico, Dante Moore, or Vizzina, I doubt Jackson ever sees the field.

Jackson is pretty good and talented but will need to develop to run this sort of offense coming from what he ran in high school. Agreed though, the other guys are probably more talented but I do think Jackson is good enough to see the field over those guys being he’d be a year ahead. Jackson isnt JG by any means lol

I agree. It's fine to aim high, but be realistic. You get a kid like this that you can wrap up and you do it. We're going to mess around and see it play out like it did with our instate group this year.
If you don't try to get the best, you will never get the best. If you don't try to do your best at a task, you will never get the best results. Only losers don't try for the best. Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

When Hooker came out of High School, he was a 3 star, .8903. I am certain no on would have believed he could run the offense either. I believe whoever comes her as QB, CJH will coach him up. He will leave UT better than he came.

Completely agree. I think we as TN fans are so unfamiliar with having coaches who actually develop talent that it’s hard to believe Heupel can do it.

I see a difference in the most physically talented individual vs a player who might not have the 5 star physical tools but is a guy who will be able to garner the respect of his teammates and is a leader. You really need the qb to be the leader of your offense. Granted, I don't know what these kids have inside, but I hope the staff won't get caught up in star ratings and will, instead, find a guy who can lead a team. I'd love to have another Casey Clausen. Not the biggest, not the fastest, not the strongest arm, but the kid was a baller. Hey, if the 5 stars we're recruiting have both, all the better, but they'd better not get left holding the bag at the most important position on the team.

That is exactly why I think we should recruit the best players in the classes. However, that does not mean we should only recruit the best players. No one is likely to sign every play they have ranked at the top of their list, but some like Georgia and Alabama come close. As we improve, and we will improve, we will began to get our fair shear of our top targets. We did it in the 1990s and we can do it again. Happy day are just around the corner. Stay tuned.

Vizzina, the No. 9 quarterback in the 2023 class, will have his pick of programs to choose from. Clemson, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Kentucky are among the many schools pursuing him and hoping to get him on campus this spring for a visit.
The Volunteers got him to Knoxville for their junior day event two weeks ago, and he came away with rave reviews.

It was a lot of fun,” Vizzina told On3’s Joseph Hastings. “I got to talk to Coach Heupel. The big thing for them was how they’re going to develop me and get me ready for the NFL. I got to see all of the facilities, talk to a lot of recruits and meet all the coaches. It was a great time. I really like Knoxville, and I definitely want to see spring practice there.”

Have to disagree just because it's been way too long since we've been this deep for a top 5* caliber QB. And this guy as a backup is super strong. Who knows when we'll be in such a strong position again.

If Jackson doesn't pan out (not unusual for a kid rated ~200) then you have a gap. I think you want to recruit like the big boys these days. Take all the talent you can every season and see who wins out.

Jmo but respect your opinion here

Offered by UGA. Likely hedging their Arch+Nico bets, but very interesting turn of events here...
Why any elite, running capable QB would want to play for that trash offensive scheme that ran Justin Fields off, is beyond me.

Don't think he will though. He's targeting us Bama and Oregon for a reason.

I get ya. I didn’t say “don’t get a QB in ‘23”
I’m just not going to be too upset if UT does not sign one. Im hopeful though…….

Clemson normally does the opposite of slow playing. They typically dictate commit now or we move on

Not sure they have that option this cycle. Arch has dropped them, and their QB room is much more bare than in the past, so they seem to be letting it play out for Vizzina at least for now. I think with the options he now has they'd be stupid (which I wouldn't put past Dabo) to push him too hard.
