‘23 AL QB Christopher Vizzina (Clemson commit)

Not sure they have that option this cycle. Arch has dropped them, and their QB room is much more bare than in the past, so they seem to be letting it play out for Vizzina at least for now. I think with the options he now has they'd be stupid (which I wouldn't put past Dabo) to push him too hard.

Fair point.

Clemson normally does the opposite of slow playing. They typically dictate commit now or we move on
They also offer an absurdly small number. Like ~100 each year. Their approach is dictated by having so few guys on their board to begin with imo. They definitely have a specific and unique approach.

With each hire I wonder if we'll change our approach (just out of curiosity, no idea if there is a better approach...just different), but ever since at least Butch we've more or less led the nation in offers. Maybe not #1, but top tier...350-500 offers a year iirc.

Iirc they just brought in the #1 QB for 2022.

Man, they were so freakin lucky to get good at the right time (playoffs, social media, all the best players just wanting to go to the same places over and over).

You are close. Klubnik wound up as the #2 QB.

Used to not take portals either. His “rule” has never been tested. Deshaun Watson or Trevor Lawrence takes a visit…you think they REALLY get dropped?

I remember hearing that about Dabo somewhere. I don’t think it’s an official rule just some sort of pet peeve of his maybe. I could see him possibly dropping a player who isn’t quite as important as a QB. Dabo just seems like that kind of guy.

Just sayin that it’s well known but hasn’t been tested. In that game of chicken he swerves…guaranteed.

Sam Horn 94 rated 4*….. we tried to get involved with Simpson but didn’t have any luck…. We then went hard after Jackson…. VQ said that we wanted him much More than Horn and were very high on him.
Horn committed to Mizzou just a month after Heupel arrived. We hardly stood a chance.

But we didn't even offer Jackson until the same day Horn committed elsewhere.

Who can really know, but sounds to me like we certainly pushed for Jackson more...once Horn had committed to Mizzou. Or maybe a coincidence, idk.

I don't recall VQ saying anything of the sort.

They said Pruitt was all in on Simpson and never recruited Horn. Heupel came and tried to get involved with both Simpson and Horn. Neither really showed any interest in coming here once Heupel was hired.

I’m just going By what was reported….. I was pretty sure we were going to get Horn and was pretty disappointed that we didn’t get him….One of the recruiting guys stated that we didn’t push real hard for Horn and had him further down the list….. was they full of it? Possibly but there was no rumors at all of us contacting him to try and stay involved after his commitment. That makes me think that there might be some truth to what they were saying.

The potential for Jackson to be an elite qb is definitely there but it remains to be seen because he didn’t play in a pass happy system in high school but Heupel can develop a qb.

I don't know if this helps explain why, but I have family that go to every Center Grove game (had a cousin who played for them years ago). Basically, they said Jackson has a ton of talent and that his stats don't look too impressive due to the massive leads they'd build quickly in games. They said Jackson usually only played the first half since they'd routinely be up big at halftime and that they could run the ball with ease thanks to two stud RB's and an O-Line with two or three D1 players. They also said if it was actually a close game and they needed someone to make a play, Jackson was always that guy for Center Grove. So, I'm pumped to see what Jackson will do here.

From Rivals:

The four-star quarterback from Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christian is complimentary of all teams and has not officially narrowed down his list yet but the feeling is that Clemson is in very strong shape for his commitment along with Notre Dame and Tennessee. A final round of visits could come this spring and then a possible decision since quarterbacks usually come off the board early and barring any significant changes, Clemson could be the team to beat.

One could make a strong argument that Arch did Clemson a huge favor by eliminating them so early, as they are now the only school recruiting him as their no-question #1 target. We have Nico #1 (while UGA and Bama have Arch #1), while ND has Moore #1.

Gotta hope the timing works out such that we either land Nico (best case scenario) or are either told to/decide to move on from him early enough to go all-in on Vizzina before his mind is set on Clemson.

***Edited for clarity about Bama and UGA having Arch #1 on their respective boards

Arch is #1 for Bama not Nico and UGA is still in for Arch as well.
