‘23 AL RB Khalifa Keith (Tennessee)

Coach Mack’s RB recruiting is kind of inexcusable when you can’t recruit a blue chip to the #1 offense in America. JMO
We don't have immediate playing time to sell unless you're a body type that we don't have on the roster. Next season we'll have a senior, junior, and sophomore that are guaranteed playing time and the '23 class isn't loaded with blue chip big backs. There's only 3 that are 210+ lbs in the top 50 rated RBs. Our guy, Keith, is the 4th highest rated guy of that size and he checks in as the 56th best RB (247Sports)(5th highest by On3 47th overall). I expect us to land 2 highly rated guys in the '24 class.

Oh lord.

What would make you say such a thing lol?

Statistically he was better than Jaylen Wright was for us last year.

If Dylan gets up to 200 lbs next fall then watch out!

Also, “every down back” is a thing of the past. Especially in this offense. We don’t need an every down back, in the traditional sense. We’re not lining up in the I-formation. We need 2 or 3 guys who can come in and out and be productive.

I think next year, we’ll have 3 productive RBs in Sampson, Wright, and Small, with carries being distributed in that order.

Ironically in this offense every back we have has to be an "every down back" since we don't sub on 3rd downs or at all for that matter....

Only hindrance to Sampson’s playing time EARLY in the season, was pass protection. By the end of the season he acquitted himself well. There was nothing that couldn’t be done with him in the backfield and he was the most dangerous option.

There is minimal difference is size between Kieth and Seldon. But a great deal of difference in talent. I don't pretend to know what position or positions Cam will play.bur if it's RB Kieth won't be playing a lot of downs.

Honest question. Did Sampson play like a 3* as a Fr? Should he have been a "blue chip" as a recruit?

And... do you really lay recruiting for a position solely at the feet of the position coach?

I really can't tell you why guys aren't lining up to play RB in this O. Even without an "elite" RB, the Vols have one of the best rushing O's in the SEC. Sampson was 3rd in ypc while Wright was 12th. Seems like someone would see that as a huge opportunity.

OTOH... I personally care a lot more about results than recruiting rankings. UT just won 10 games with a patchwork roster. The Vols had a very effective run game that complimented the passing game to create college football's most successful offense.

And you really think anything about that is "inexcusable"?

No one knows that until they get on campus. Some players simply adapt better than others. Last year's 4* RB is in the portal. Last year's 3* "afterthought" looks like a rising star.

And not trying to bust your chops... but unless you've reviewed ALL of their film and gotten a chance to work them out... you don't have enough information to make declarations about potential.

only an opinion, I do believe I have a right to have one. From the film I've seen I'll stick with my opinion.

Cam supposedly will start at WR.
He'll play both RB and WR.

If Seldon focused just at RB, he'd be a 5 star guy there imo.

He's not just more talented than Keith, but every other RB imo
