'21 AL WDE Dylan Brooks (Auburn transfer)

We're gonna get raked over the coals on this one.

We get raked over the coals regardless. Who gives a damn. Kirby didn’t let Mayes out of his. Why should we always just roll over? It’s time we start acting like a real SEC program. Maybe it’s a jerk or prick move but Alabama, Florida, and Georgia would do the same and in recruiting, lies are everywhere. It’s just the way it is. Do I like it? No I do not. But we have got to quit being concerned about what the Woken’s of the world think. He can go thru the process Brandon Kennedy and Mayes did if he wants immediate eligibility.

Why do schools wait to fire coaches until after the recruits sign? I'd like to see a list of schools that fired their coach prior to either signing day. You might have 1 kid in each class that signs because they love Tennessee. The majority like what they are sold by the staff, depth charts, their skill set fits the scheme the coaches run, and ultimately the best chance at the next level.

Did Cade Mayes lose his head coach?

Tennessee is already on the hook for his scholarship, so there's no reason to kowtow to an 18-year-old and rival program while getting the short end of the stick in return. If Dylan Brooks doesn't like the terms of his NLI release, then he needs to lawyer up just like countless Tennessee players have needed to in the past.

Some of you old heads have forgotten what it’s like to be young and impressionable.

And I guarantee Brooks didn’t “know” Pruitt was getting fired. He’s being recruited by multiple schools and you think he’s spending his time on fan message boards discussing firing the coach? HA. Hell I didn’t even think Pruitt was gonna be fired and I’m on here daily.
no one "knew". still wasn't a slam dunk that he was gonna be here. there was tons of speculation going on at the time about his future.
How many of you saying “you don’t commit to a coach” were actually recruited by multiple schools to play a sport in college?
what's that got to do with it? every year, you hear experts talk about committing to a school, not a coach. every year there's a handful of kids that get talked about that wind up in a situation like this and there's someone from 247, rivals or espn talking about how kids just can't commit to coaches...and they list all the obvious reasons why. and it's clear that's what happened here.

that i wasn't recruited doesn't have any real bearing on it. that he was either oblivious or ignorant or didn't care about any of that doesn't matter.

why does it have to be someone else's fault all the time? he made a decision, he owns it.

not really aimed at you per se......but when does the person making the choice actually own it, and it's consequences?

Kids nowadays just don’t understand “commitment” or responsibility.

They also don’t think about what their actions cause. Granted I understand he may of been lied to by “Pruitt” but the kid is/was a highly rated recruit. He would of seen game time.

So why is he transferring ? What grounds? Just because he doesn’t have the same coach?

The kid could easily come to UT for a year and transfer if he didn’t like it. He would always have his redshirt to fall back on. So.....

Explain to me why it is okay to just take a hit to our counter without any repercussions to the kid.

He didn’t commit to the Army, man. He committed to play a game in school bc he liked the coach.

The school should be punished. It’s what you get for having inept leadership and hiring people who cheat and deceive.

Why should the kid be punished for making a decision based on the lies of an employee that the school hired?

That’s like If a business hired a sales rep and he went around lying to everyone about the capabilities of the product and people bought it based off those lies. When the lie is discovered, who should be punished? The customers who bought the lie or the company for hiring sh*t employees?

Auburn fired Malzahn early and had the worst class in the West this year. 2nd worst class in the SEC overall I think.
.... Nevermind, they finished 10th in the SEC, but that's terrible when you're consistently to 10 in the country.

Lol how about all parties be held responsible like they were. Tennessee had to find an entirely new staff pay money to coaches, possibly suffer sanctions, etc.

The kid gets to be held responsible for not keeping his commitment.

Same same.

well, typically, they want to keep as many good players as possible, so that kinda is what it is.

but really, i don't think it happened all that often in the past, before the ESD....the season would end in November, coach fired shortly thereafter, and signing day in February. the colleges post season would play out and you'd likely have a new guy in place some time after Christmas or New Year's depending on who was targeted.

with the ESD, much harder to do. the school has to make a choice, cause if you fire him before the ESD, you may or may not have a replacement in place, and even if you do, it may be only a matter of a few days before the ESD, and i'd wager pretty much anyone that was considering signing on ESD, is gonna hold off, and that really throws the new coach a curve ball....because some % of those kids will then sign with another school, and you get no shot at them for a Feb signing.

so, many schools will follow their own timeline and let signing day happen. after all, no one HAS to sign in December.....

in our case, it was all about the investigation.

Again, I have no sympathy for this kid or his situation. It was clear in December that there were issues within the Tennessee program. I don’t care what assurances he had from Fulmer. He still chose to sign early. That’s on him. He didn’t have to do it. He wasn’t an early enrollee. He should have waited it out. If he wants a clean release, I’d make him fight for it, too. His change in course cost another kid a scholarship at Tennessee, cost Tennessee the initial counter, and puts our new staff in a lurch due to losing his talent.

I would normally be in the kid’s corner in this type situation, but it was avoidable for him if he had simply held off on signing to see what transpired between December and February. This is doubly true for a kid like Brooks who is talented enough that 99% of schools would find a place for him.

Exactly ..you CANT make it easy .. or you at some schools you could have a mass exodus .. 20 players or so ... if there were no consequences ..then guys would be getting feelings hurt and saying in out .. im going here or there ..

uh, isn't that what they teach on day 1 of salesman school? and it's not lying if you don't know the product's capabilities sucked. that's called plausible deniability. ;) Pruitt didn't know he was gonna be fired......lol

i'm kidding...sort of.

lost his Position coach. and his dad was suing UGA....or something...had a finger cut off i think at a UGA even or some such....

Position coach leaving isn't a precedent that needs to be set. They leave often. Head coaches are a different story. Don't want your recruiting class to tank? Hire a better coach. Not the kids fault the University fires the coach they signed to play for.

Not getting his way isn't a punishment.

If he wants to play in the SEC let him sit. He signed at Tennessee. Life lesson. It’s hard and not always fair.
Did Tommy Tuberville have to sit out a year when he left Ole Miss for Auburn? Did Dan Mullen have to sit out a year when he left Mississippi State for Florida?

i wasn't advocating for it. just stating it was the position coach that left.

the real reason was proababy the issue with Dad and UGA, and the lawsuit....

and UGA still made it difficult....

yet he wants to go to Auburn who also fired the coach recruiting him while his position coach that was recruiting him is here? So the argument of committing to coaching staff doesnt compute here.... Maybe we just fired the coach that was giving him a payout and he doesnt like it?
