As COVID-19 invades college football, can’t we just say health is more important than playing?

"The latest information from the sports coronavirus front was a stunner: National runner-up Clemson announced that 23 football players had tested positive of the for the cunning disease.

As fate would have it, the Louisville Cardinals are scheduled to play at Clemson on Saturday, Sept. 12. That would be the Cards’ second game of the season, following their season opener on Thursday, Sept. 3, against N.C. State.

But if you’re a U of L parent, do you really want your son to play against the Tigers? And from Clemson’s viewpoint, do you really want to play Louisville and other top foes with a depleted roster? Wouldn’t it be better just to cancel football until more is known about the mysterious virus and even a vaccine developed?"

Testing policies jeopardize college football season

...a highly transmissible virus . . . and we do know that with just a single case that’s not necessarily symptomatic, in high-risk settings, it can spread explosively,” said Albert Ko, an infectious-disease epidemiologist and professor at the Yale School of Public Health. “There’s actually a question and debate of whether you should test twice per week.”

Across college football, however, what Ko believes is a consensus is not yet agreed upon. Over the past week, The Post surveyed all 65 schools in the five major college football conferences and discussed best safety practices with five infectious-disease experts — including Ko, who consulted with the NBA, which plans to test its players every day when it attempts to resume play this summer.

Let's take this COVID 19 serious - do social distancing and wear masks when required. It may get worse before it gets better and more people will be out of work. Many other things going on too. This country needs prayer and we need most of all patience!

Sports will be different. So will the sports media

That might sound like a complaint. It’s not. We’re in a pandemic. COVID-19 is transmitted almost exclusively via personal interaction. You can’t spread the virus via Zoom. The various leagues and teams must do everything in their power to protect the people who will play/coach these games. If that means slicing media exposure to the bone, so be it. (And at the rate college football players are testing positive, I’m not sure we older folks need to be around them, either.)

Until there’s a vaccine, the days of the open locker room are gone.

DumbledOrange, you have to be the most obsessed person on this subject nationally. This is whole covid thing is absurd over reaction on a world scale in history. The resultant poverty from this over reaction will kill far more than the disease (and yes, it is real). The other result of this over reaction is when we finally have a SERIOUS bug going around, the majority will not comply because of the history established in the current event. Too many cries of wolf. If you are in an at risk category, stay home. Simple stuff, really. Have a blessed day.

Paul Finebaum doubtful 2020 CFB season will happen

“I’ve gone from incredibly positive to pause, because it is too early and we don’t know yet,” Finebaum said on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’ on Friday. “I’m hearing more gloom and doom this week than I’ve heard in any week since early-to-mid April. Nobody is saying it and nobody wants to say it, because if you say the college football season is doubtful, the thought police come after you for disregarding the nation opening. But privately, many people are starting to doubt where we are.”

“There’s nowhere to go to be in a bubble. You have programs all over the country with different economic situations and testing protocols,” Finebaum said. “I think even if we get to a season, you will see teams that will not play or will not play a full season. It’s going to be a jigsaw puzzle of epic proportions.”

Will there be college football? A new flurry of pessimism has arrived

Around the country, the fear among administrators of not playing football in the fall – or having a season rife with interruptions and canceled games – has emerged stronger than at any point in the last month.

One industry source summed up the tenor as one of “overall discouragement.” Another college athletics industry source told Yahoo Sports there’s been “more pessimism the last few days than in weeks.” The source added that the negative feelings have transcended athletics, as college presidents are again concerned about the prospect of in-person classes being held
